  1. A beautiful rememberance of your Allie. She sounds like quite the character...
  2. Our little girl has developed a very severe case of noise phobia relating to garbage trucks, air brakes, back up beeping etc. She doesn't get up until noon or later, won't eat in the morning, won't walk in the neighbourhood until the evening, and generally has a very restricted life. We have had her just under a year, the and she started displaying anxiety based behaviours after 5 months or so. To complicated matters, she also has been diagnosed with PRA, and will likely lose all of her sight within a year. We saw a specialist a couple of months ago, and he didn't think she had any vision loss at that time, but the signs were there that it was forthcoming. ANYWAY, she has been prescribed Prozac and Xanax for garbage days. The Prozac dose she is supposed to be on is a fairly big dose, even for people. We have eased her into it, and she is now up to 40mg a day, going up to 50mg soon. Seems like a lot for a smallish dog, 57 lbs. She's been on it three weeks, and we can't say we have seen much improvement so far, if anything, she seems less playful. (She used to be her puppy self in the evenings, zipping, digging like a maniac, playing with her brother dog). Anyone with experience using Prozac on their dog for anxiety?
  3. Beautiful tribute. So sorry you lost big boy. Godspeed Higgins...
  4. We are battling hooks and our girl was not the slightest bit hungry in the morning, and was likely nauseous. She also refused to get up until about noon. Could be the hooks...
  5. We saw the specialist, and indeed she does have early signs of PRA, but he didn't think she had any vision loss yet. She is 2 1/2. Does the vision loss always go quickly? Do they go completely, stone blind or or will there light and shadow? Should have asked the specialist but was in kind of a state of shock...
  6. A lovely tribute to a beautiful hound. Fly free, sweety...
  7. When we had this problem, our vet gave us metronidazole and that was the end of the stinky farts...
  8. Greetings from Calgary! Where are you located? So sorry about Linden. We might be going down this road as well, sooner rather than later...
  9. I second the vanilla mint! It's hard to get a hold of around here though.
  10. Thanks for chiming in, Jen. Have to seek out some Lactium too. It's been quite a trial for her...and us. Funny how her anxiety came on after we had had her about 4 or 5 months. We have had her for 8 months now. Just doesn't see right that a pup doesn't want to walk in familiar areas. She's only two in April. Just had her in to the vet to see if anything else going on...nothing apparent...
  11. Just started it for Oakley's big truck noises phobia. Will keep you posted...
  12. Very sorry to see you lost your lovely girlie.
  13. My girl, JS Oakley also has Kiowa Mon Manny as her grand sire. Two of her litter mates have been diagnosed before they turned two. So far, Oakley shows no sign of it, but we are waiting to get into the ophthalmologist. Can this disorder be hit and miss within a litter, anybody know?
  14. So not fair! Take lots of pictures of your pretty girl...hugs to you...
  15. A moving tribute to your lovely girl. So sorry osteo got another one...
  16. He was well loved. Rest in peace, handsome Stan.
  17. Far too early for couch privileges. Should be months before he is allowed on the couch. Also, greyhounds are often very touchy about their personal space. One minute it's okay another dog is lying next to them, and the next minute it's not. Also search this forum for "Sleep Startle". Good luck with your new boy! Greyhounds often have a few piccadillos, but are such a fun breed.
  18. Aww, so sorry to see this. I always enjoyed your stories about the Mayhem left in his wake. Run free, Paddy A. M.
  19. Outdoor cats often eat mice, which usually carry tapeworms. One of my dogs got some suspected bobcat (!) poop recently, doG knows what they carry, so had him wormed with Drontal.
  20. Between your lovely pictures and words, you have presented a wonderful portrait of Wiki. So sorry for your loss...
