  1. It's as I put his feet up on the seat. He does have some arthritis in his left ankle. I have a feeling I'm squeezing that ankle as I put his feet up. Once they're up, getting him in is easy. I either use his assist harness or just lift put my arms around his back end and lift.
  2. I got a lift harness in Gettysburg that works well. I guess I'm a bit upset because of the little yelp of pain when I put Magic's front feet on the car seat. I think that's what I tried but got the back end but not the front. I'll give it a try again. Thanks to both of you.
  3. Magic is having trouble getting in my car. I put his front feet on the seat and lift his back end but that apparently hurts him as he cries. My question is how do I properly pick him up? Thank you.
  4. I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread but is their a greyhound adoption kennel near you? Some of them do boarding. It might be less stressful than a typical boarding kennel and your baby would be cared for by people who know greyhounds.
  5. Magic has some back-end issues. The vet said he most likely has degenerative myelopathy. Others who know have suggested LS. I can't afford an MRI for an absolute diagnosis. My housemate leaves the door open so Magic can go out into the fenced-in yard during the nice days. Magic takes full advantage of it and has to go down and up 2 steps. Is it possible that he could be overdoing it? This evening he was having a hard time standing up. I took him for a walk and he did fine. I try to close the door when I'm around but it's not always possible if I'm out. Thanks.

  15. Thanks for the suggestions. When he started barking at around 8, I got up but didn't go downstairs right away. He actually stopped. I don't know if he heard me and decided to be patient. Obviously ignoring him helped a bit. Magic does wear a coat during the night but I got a blanket from his SS so I'll put it on him before bed. The house is not exactly warm during the winter but on cold nights (less than 40 degrees), my housemate does the wood stove. The other night I gave him a rimadyl before bed and he slept. Maybe he does ache a bit.
  16. Pretty much since early November, Magic has been not sleeping through the night. I usually go to bed around 11 and my housemate around 12. Magic gets a large Milkbone around 11 and then goes out at least once. He's downstairs alone and he starts barking and won't stop despite my calling to him to lie down. I've gone down to make sure he doesn't need to go out again. Usually, he does not. He sleeps downstairs for a couple of reasons: arthritis and a nerve issue (degenerative myeloneuropathy), my bedroom has very little space for him, and the cat's litter box and dry food are upstairs. Also, if he would go upstairs, coming down could be a problem because the landing is very small; and, if he came down too fast, he would crash into a wall which covers the stone exterior of the house and the wall is not that thick. The vet suggested Melatonin nightly which I've given him the last couple of nights and it has worked a little. I don't want to give it to him every night since he doesn't act up every night. If he starts, I'll give it to him. My question is could this be simple insomnia or SA or maybe something else? The barks are his normal bark when he wants something so it's not pain. Any thoughts?
  17. Ducky, I'm so sorry Tessa had to leave you. Run free Tessa.
  18. Ducky, Could you add Willow please? Another hound lost to the Ebil C. Unfortunately, her brother Benjamin also has Osteo.
  19. I love my vet too. They are conservative when it comes to treatment which saves money. The one doctor doesn't mind if I order Magic's meds from 1-800-Petmeds; one of the other's doesn't like it too much. Like Chris' vet, their parking lot is small when it's busy.
