  1. She may have a load of parasites and/or a UTI that is making it difficult for her to "hold it" while crated. A trip to the vet for a thorough check-up including a fecal is a good idea. She may just not like to be crated. My Wendy detests the crate, so we baby gate her in the dining room with a treat filled Kong when we are not going to be at home. "Freezing" or "Statueing" is something Greyhounds do when they are afraid or unsure of a situation. If she is food motivated, try to entice her to move by offering high value treats like bits of cooked chicken. Make "happy" sounds of encouragement. Sometimes, simply changing direction or walking in a circle, will break the trance and get them moving. VERY GENTLE tugs on the lead may help her to get going again. Most of all, be patient. She is in a new and potentially very scary (to her) place with new sights, sounds and expectations. She will come around...Promise!

    Nike Is Gone

Holding you close across the miles and sharing in your grief.
  3. Wendy partially detached her stopper pad. I cleaned and disinfected it, applied Neosporin, and bandaged it well with a non-stick gauze pad, rolled gauze bandage and Vet wrap. Healed like a dream.
  4. Oh my goodness! Poor you and your pups. I hope everyone heals up quickly and well.
  5. I'm having a brain cramp right now and don't quite remember who recommended Jann Howell to me, but I do plan to contact her for a reading. Wendy, thank God, has no issues, but I certainly like to "hear" what she has to say especially if there is anything she needs to tell me. Anyway, here is her web site.. I am so sorry you are going through this difficult time. www.scanimalcommunicator.com
  6. Welcome from Miami! Calvin is adorable. I love his white feetsies. That odd tail wag seems to be a Greyhound thing. We call it "chopper tail" or "`copter tail" because the circular motion reminds us of a helicopter's blades spinning `round and `round. Enjoy your boy and please visit GT often.
  7. I use Proden Plaqueoff - this stuff really works over time - BUT should not be used if the hound has thyroid issues. http://www.entirelypets.com/plaqueoff180.html?gclid=CNu0vNLj76ACFQadnAodAk5QDQ Also, Wendy gets raw, meaty bones 2-3 times a week. These include - lamb shanks, turkey necks, beef marrow and knuckle bones, turkey wings - whatever is available and the price is right. Of course, she gets her "spa day" once a week when we do grooming -nails,ears,teeth. I brush her teeth with doggie toothpaste and I use a piece of old hosiery instead of a toothbrush to gently scrub her teeth and gums.

    S Go Unruly

Oh dear God! Unruly was the dog I chose when I first decided to adopt a Greyhound. Michelle from FoG brought him over and I thought he was home forever, but, an unfortunate encounter with the little poodle next door ruined it for us. Little did I know that he was not long for this earth. I wanted to call him Rooly. Rooly/Rudy, my angel, no more pain baby. You were loved beautiful boy. Tim & Rose - God bless you for your generous spirits and kind hearts.
  9. Erica, My hound does not have corns, but she really tears up her pads racing around our yard. In your opinion, would this cream be beneficial to apply to lacerated pads to promote healing? And, how about to healthy pads to keep them that way? Thank you for your interest in keeping our hounds pain free.
  10. Oh, sweet baby. I'm so sorry.
  11. Chris, Just a thought - How about icing his back if he'll tolerate it? It might help reduce the inflammation.
  12. OMG, Chris! My poor Harley! The only advice I can give you is maybe see Dr. Sargent at Knowles. She's an acupuncturist. Gentle scritches for our boy. Veterinary Doctor - Dr. Lois Sargent - You can read more about her on the clinic web site.
  13. Oliver looks like a bundle of fun! Welcome to GT and I wish you many happy years of Greyt fun.
  14. This stuff really works - http://www.entirelypets.com/fortifloradog.html
  15. Obedience training...meh. All I want from Wendy is very basic. Housebroken, doesn't dash out the front door, walks well on lead, obeys a couple of simple commands and is polite to visitors. I'm happy with my girl just the way she is.
  16. Hello and welcome. So nice to make your aquaintance!

  18. I am so very sorry for your loss. Your lovely poem touched me deeply. May your heart find solace in the knowledge that you and your Gracie will be reunited, as we all will, with loved ones lost.

    Venus

Venus was a visitor from Heaven. She's with the angels now. Rest easy sweet girl.

  21. Wendy gets hers every 6 months. Maybe that's a Florida thing?

    Goodbye Petey

So very sorry. In the arms of the angels, Petey.
  23. It's like watching a flower bloom, isn't it.
  24. I am familiar with the Diva DoGess type houndie. My Wendy does the prancing, the foot stomping, and the I-want-to-go-Walkies-NOW show. However, my favorite divaliciousness is when she hears the ice-tray rattle in the kitchen, comes galloping in and barks at you until she gets an ice cube. I must admit that the Momma and the Poppa have encouraged this behavior! What can I say...we are Diva enablers!
