  1. I just had Wendy chipped last Friday. Cost me $45 + a one time fee of $18.50 to AVID. Well worth it if it will help find my girl should she go missing (God forbid!).
  2. My Ridgeback, Champion, was great at wiping that stuff off on the furniture. EWWWW! God, I miss that dog!
  3. OOPS! 33 is already taken. How about 30?
  4. OMG! Say it ain't so...Wendy's getting micro-chipped on Friday! Off to do some research.
  5. What a lovely tribute, what a special bond. Beautiful soul, running free in the Light.
  6. Wendy is fed Merrick brand kibble and canned. I alternate the flavors for variety. She also gets raw turkey necks, chicken backs and marrow bones. One or twice a week, I will boil some organ or muscle meats and add that to her kibble instead of the canned food. I also feed sardines (packed in water, no salt), canned salmon and jack mackeral. Green beef and lamb tripe are a favorite add-in to dry kibble. For snacks, I have begun baking my own treats. Thank you GT'ers for the great liver brownie recipes!
  7. In Jack's name. I have just purchased a Hope for Hounds collar for Wendy from 2Hounds Design. I would urge everyone on GreyTalk to do the same for Jack and for all the hounds. CANCER SUCKS. LET'S FIND A CURE.
  8. So very sorry. Is there nothing that can be done?
  9. Oh, yeah...collar rub. Wendy has a bald spot in that same spot from the collar she wore at the Rescue. After two month's being home it's no longer irritated and it looks like little, teeny hairs are growing back. Check out the tag collars from Carpe Canem, http://www.carpecanem.com/store/index.php/cat_6. They are super soft leather, attractive and affordable. They are strong enough to be used to lightly restrain, as well.
  10. Wendy runs hot all the time. She will often lie on the tiles instead of her bed(s). Her belly is a great foot warmer. Toasty! The Florida heat and humidity are murder on her. I can't imagine my little pixie girl running any dang races in this furnace! Poor little mite!
  11. Wendy has a scar that looks just like that, on her shoulder, under the fur. It's not red, sort of a silvery color. I had myself all worked up imagining someone from her 'old life' had burned her with a cigarette.
  12. Yeah, what's up with the massive shedding ? Greyhounds don't shed. I brushed Wendy today and was astonished at how much fur was flying! She gets brushed on a regular basis, but holy cow, this was outta control. I had on black yoga pants..big mistake. They were COVERED in dog hair. Maybe it's the 90 degree temps we've been having lately?
  13. Hey Leslie! So happy to hear that Gus is doing well. Good boy, Gustopher! Please give him a scritch from me and a sniffandlick from Wendy.
  14. I hate to be a harbinger of doom but, when my Ridgeback, Champion, began yelping when I touched his ears it turned out to be a brain tumor. If the yelping continues, please, please have it checked out carefully.
  15. What, if anything, besides a dollop of yogurt, helps with the toxic fumes that these guys produce? I notice that Wendy prefers her food minus the yogurt, but DH & I prefer Wendy WITH the yogurt...if you get my drift? Any other natural remedies ya'll can recommend?
  16. You mention that Spud is...ummmm...accident prone? When he gets a gash where the skin is torn, do you take him to the vet or mend it yourself? The reason I ask is that Wendy tore a gash in her thigh (on our two week Gotchaversary!) and I panicked and raced to the E-Vet. $800 later she was neatly stitched up, was is fine, but it was done under general anesthesia, which is very scary to me. I wonder if those greyhound gashes can be safely dealt with at home.
  17. What items are absolute 'must haves' in a greyhound first aid kit and what others have you found to be useful in emergency situations and every day nicks and cuts.
  18. 'In the arms of the angels, may you find comfort there'
  19. At our house it's baby wipes or cotton balls with a bit of mineral oil.
  20. I agree. I feed yogurt and, occasionally cheese. I use baby food (w/out added onion or garlic and frozen) as a Kong stuffer.
  21. A pleasure to make your acquaintance!
  22. I considered getting one of these but thought it might hurt tender greyhound skin. So you all would recommend the Zoom Grooms, yes?
