  1. Hey Holly & Outlaw. Just checkin' in to see how our boy is feeling today. About the wandering...our Ridgeback did that as he got older. Kind of a doggie Alzheimers. There is medication to help with the cognitive problems. Is Outlaw still on Neurontin? I took Neurontin in very high doses for Fibromyalgia pain and it made me kinda fuzzy-brained. Anyway, lots of gentle scritches and hugs coming your way. P.S. Wendy loves her new collar. Thank you!
  2. Sending gentle hugs and scritches to Outlaw and praying for a good day and further improvement. Holly from Irene and Wendy.
  3. Yup. The main ingredient is marine algae. Lots of iodine, I'm guessing.
  4. This is for the GT'ers who requested a follow up on Plaque-Off. I have been adding 3 scoops of Proden Plaque-Off to Wendy's breakfast every morning for about 3 weeks. BTW, the scoops are teeny, not even a teaspoon's worth of powder. Anyway, last night I decided to take a close look at the girl's teeth (which were not terrible to begin with). There was some plaque build-up on a canine so I started to rub the tooth with my thumb. Lo and behold, the plaque just crumbled off! This stuff works! I give it two thumbs up. I just reordered a bottle from Only Natural Pet and plan to continue to use this product. http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/products/Pro...Off/232000.aspx
  5. When we first brought Wendy home, the house smelled like a sewer! Real paint-peelers. Our vet recommended FortiFlora. It really works...no more stinkies. You can buy it from your vet or a bit cheaper on-line. We get ours from Entirely Pets. http://www.entirelypets.com/fortiflora.html
  6. `Morning Krisitin and houndies. I hope everyone is feeling better today and tomato tensions have ceased.
  7. Because it moves when palpated, I vote for lipoma (fatty tumor). My Ridgeback was prone to these and the vet would just aspirate them with a syringe. Quick & painless. Hope Miz Bee W.'s bump is nothing to worry about, too. Kisses, sweet girl.
  8. Too many. Too soon. Deepest condolences.
  9. AMEN to that! The vet did not seem at all concerned and said that if it is a ligament/tendon injury there's nothing to be done about it. Hopefully the ortho. surgeon will concur.
  10. Was he born that way or did this develop suddenly? In Wendy's case, this happened last night. I'm guessing she smashed into something.

He knows he was loved. Sharing in your grief.
  12. Last night I noticed that Wendy was favoring her right hind leg. On closer inspection, I see that one of her middle toes is straight rather than hare-like. It looks slightly longer than the other toes. This morning, she's not limping and doesn't seem bothered by her distended toe. We go to the vet anyway and there is no break nor dislocation on x-ray. Huh. The surgeon will look at the x-rays on Monday and give me a call. Maybe the injury is in the ligaments or tendons. My greatest concern is that this will cause lameless later on. Has anyone experienced this type of injury? Any input would be most appreciated.
  13. Having experienced the nightmare of bloat with our Rhodesian Ridgeback, it is my understanding that bloat does have a tendency to recur. Our vet attached Champion's stomach to his ribcage to prevent a future episode. I blame myself completely because I allowed him to race around the yard right after he had eaten. Mismanagement indeed.
  14. Does this mean that Greyhound people are.......anal? Sorry. Couldn't resist.
  15. All I can suggest is a warm, moist cloth... a compress. The blood suggests an infection or an abcess.
  16. Sounds like impacted anal glands. Those things REEK! They are also painful and can get infected. Time for a visit to the vet, IMHO.
  17. We had been "dogless" for about 10 years before we adopted Wendy. The 3 year protocol took me by surprise as in New York, and years previous in Miami, the vaccine was given annually. I like the idea of eliminating uneccesary vaccinations. RyceMom, Are you there? How long has the 3 year protocol been the norm in Miami? Just askin'...
  18. Been there, done that (bloat) with our Rhodesian Ridgeback. A NGHTMARE! I am so glad that your nightmare is over and had a good outcome. Thanks for the reference.
  19. Foster's & Smith sell doggie dental scalers. I'd be afraid to scale my girl's teeth!

Rest easy handsome boy. Thank you for siring my Wendy.
  21. My entire life I have been one of those people that refused to allow my dogs on the furniture...until now. There is just something about these bony hounds. Anyway, Wendy is allowed on the couch. She is not allowed on the bed however, out of consideration for DH.
  22. I am now LaFlaca (previously Pharoah) Irene In Miami.
  23. Wendy has free access to a large, fenced-in yard where she is able to potty and/or run. She has made a pretty good 'track' back there for herself! However, I feel it is just as important to take her for a walk every day, weather permitting. We take leisurely strolls every evening before dinner or a couple of hours after. More than exercise, I view our walks as bonding time and enrichment for Wendy as she experiences new scents & sounds apart from our yard. We walk in the neighborhood or sometimes we pile into the car and drive to a park or even just several blocks away for a change of pace.
