Batmom
How is he doing this afternoon? When we have had prednisone, the drinking & peeing starts to improve after @ 5-7 days at a given dose, sometimes a day or two longer than that. So there is hope on that score. Hard on the human meanwhile. Guest IrskasMom
Jan, what a great Idea with the Sweatshirt . I will give it a Try. He is more alert and I have restricted just a little bit the Water Intake for the Night. He ate this Morning some Kibble with Rice and cooked Ground Beef and for Lunch I gave him some more Kibbles , Rice and Rotisserie Chicken . He ate it all. If he keeps that up , he will get some strengths back.

Guest IrskasMom
Ducky , Thank you for asking . Tomorrow will be a Week since his Surgery . He is gaining some strength back and he doesn't look so " lost ". He is eating well ( Steroid Meds ) and drinks lots of Water. We just came back from the Park , he was so happy to pee on everthing and everywhere . We are having a Checkup with the Opto Vet tomorrow . We will see what's going on . We need some Sunshine and few degrees warmer to get better . Hopefully tomorrow .

PatricksMom
We are taken it Day by Day . It seems he has gotten somewhat better. The Regiment of Drops and Pills is Overwhelming. Prednisone is making him Thirsty . He made me go out every 2 Hours for Peepee last Night ( I don't even get out of my Clothe ) . To get him in or Out of the Car is almost Impossible . Make and print out an excel sheet with the pill, dose, and brief description--whoever gives him whatever round of medication initials/checks off the space for that day&time&med. I did this when we got over 10 meds, on different schedules and it really helped. Quote Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019). Guest IrskasMom
I made my Own Sheet with all the Drops and Pills .We have been very diligent on his Meds and keep track of it. Thanks for your Suggestion. Today he seems more out of it again and refuses to eat or take a Treat. tbhounds
Is he still taking a corticosteroid ?? If so his tummy may be hurting. You may want to ask your vet about dispensing carafate and perhaps starting him on Pepcid or Prilosec. Cerenia may help here too--not only will it help with nausea it has be shown to be have an analgesic effect. Guest IrskasMom
Our Opto Vet Check up went well . He is according to the Vet right on Target with healing . Now today he started again refusing to eat . We are making two Steps forward and five back. The Vet weight him and he is down to 56 lb. I am beside myself over his weight . I got Fomatadine ( Pepcid AC ) . What good does it do if he will not swallow that stupid Pill .He is litterly strarving himself to Death . I am to on the End with Medical Bills . I spend in the last 2 Month $ 4000 and don't know where it should come from . I am very frustrated .

Batmom
Pill: If you're mean like me, you can tilt his head back, open his mouth, and stuff it down his throat. If that's not workable for you or him, my second-best revenge is to put the pill in a little blob of something sticky (peanutbutter, cream cheese, liverwurst) and stick it in their mouth -- either inside their cheek back along the molars, or under their top front teeth. Usually the pill will go down with all the licking they do. Hugs and best luck. Guest IrskasMom
Jey, I just talked to my Regular Vet ( I like him ) and he could not advise me of giving him anything without first consult with the Opto Vet , because of the Effect it could have on his Glaucoma Eye ( Raise Pressure ) . Tomorrow , I put in a Call for her and see if she could do a Bloodtest to see if something else is going on and from there we have to go. Blood Test last Week was fine . . Batmom
Famotidine at ordinary doses (10mg - 30mg a day for most greyhound-sized dogs) is safe to give long-term. It doesn't interact with many other medications. I'm glad your boy is better .
