Prayers For Bunny

Need some prayers and advice for Bunny.

A week ago we went on holiday and left Bunny with some friends who have greys and have looked after before. We got back last night and when we called to arrange pick up of her this morning they said she had stopped eating over the past couple of days.

By the time we arrived at their house, Bunny had eaten breakfast of homemade turkey, sweet potato but since then nothing. even treats that she never fails to refuse she is turning her nose up to and not even reacting to the treat word!

As she has 4/5 teeth left and at 13 years old, we tried the bland diet this evening as it soft and easy for her to eat but even that failed.

She is looking very shaky and keeping her head low.

Any thoughts and prayers much appreciated.

Do you think Bunny was reacting to the fact that you were gone and was missing you? I hope it is something simple like that. :hope It's always scary when our hounds won't eat.

This has crossed my mind. In December she did something similar when we had a week away. But on that occasion we put it down to the lady she was staying with having ceramic floors and her having a few "bambi" incidents

Sending good thoughts. Try a little honey on your finger, let her lick it off. It is supposed to stimulate the appetite. Our "old" country vet once gave us that remedy.

Vanilla Ensure perhaps! Nothing too rich, just the plain old original formula.

Poor Bunny! How is she doing today? Have you tried using nutritional yeast? Its "cheesy" flavor is enticing to dogs sometimes. However, if she's not even reacting to the word treat, I would think she may be feeling nauseous and/or have a tummy upset. I'm keeping her in my thoughts. :goodluck :goodluck

Thanks for all your good wishes

Bunny is doing a bit better. She started off licking peanut butter off a spoon yesterday morning in which we buried 1/4 robaxin.

DW also made some doggie cake which is nice and soft and proved a big hit.

A trip to costco to buy a fresh roasted chicken, lead to her munching the meat off 2 legs and looking as if to say was there more!

This morning she had some kibble and chicken heated and soften.

She is slowly becomming more herself and moving from room to room and coming into the kitchen to ask for more cake! She's still very wobbly and a bit thin.

She has also come out for a walk with the other 2 yesterday and today and whilst she is a bit slow and not far, anything like this we consider progress.

The vet is comming tonight and thinks it might be something serious but we wonder if if she has hurt her mouth or remaining teeth are giving her some grief.

The other option we are still considering is the sulk "you left me routine" as Bunny is known for being very stubborn and routine driven with her going to the beat of her own drum and no one elses!

Sending well wishes to Bunny.

Anytime we go away my 8 year old black lab mix does not eat. We went away last summer and had a friend stay at our house. She did not eat and she went to the bathroom all over the house several times :( Hopefully Bunny was just upset that you were gone and she will get back into her routine now.

So the vet has been and gone, the results are back!

Bunny's organs are all fine! Blood test showed there were no issues!

However it would appear that one of Bunny's front cainines is in really poor shape and that could be giving her some grief and she had enlarge lymph glands suggesting an infection probably from the teeth.

At the moment the decision is leaning to not take the teeth out, due to a) the risk of her not waking up from the surgery (she is 13) B) in removing the teeth creating a large cavity and that becomming infected.

So Bunny is on antibiotics. She is eating more now with a combo of fresh roasted chicken, rice, fish oil and some soaked kibble.

Apart from that and my wallet being much lighter Bunny has started to return to normal as the pic below shows and the usual "princess" / teenager Bunny antics!

Ps. I did tell the vet of my theory this was all a big sulk for us going away. The vet didn't believe me and said dogs can't sulk.

Happy to hear Bunny is okay. A sore tooth can definitely affect their eating. I hope she continues to improve!
