Ullaluv
I had a 14 year old foster that had a dental - lost most of his teeth - and was in much better health after. You still need to get the infection under control first, and she should be on antibiotics when they do the dental (if that's what you and the vet decide.) Guest Paige12
Hi just wanted to chime in, we had two seniors we adopted with absolutely horrible teeth. Bo was 10, Cha-Cha was almost 11, both came through the dental with flying colors!! Then Blaze, a senior we fostered who was 12 had 17 teeth pulled and he is doing fantastic with his new Moms!! I personally felt better when I saw those teeth gone. They were a nightmare.
Guest FastDogsOwnMe
We are going in to see the vet in about half an hour... I'm nervous and excited. Please think good thoughts that Vikki will be given a clean bill of health (at least enough to make it through the surgery). I don't know how I will do it, but somehow I will. I want the tumors looked at too, assuming they think she can handle surgery. I will celebrate when those nasty teeth are gone!
racindog
I would immediately begin brushing daily with Petzlife Oral Care Gel. I babysat 12 & 11 year old greys for a friend. Both had advanced dental problems and incredible tartar buildup. Neither were physically able to have dentals and anesthesia. Within 10 days the improvement was incredible. Now, months later, she continued their care after being convinced the product worked and their mouths are incredible. They were out early this morning for a play date and if I hadn't seen it myself, I'd never believe the difference. We use this product daily. I have no interest in the company or anything. I just know the product works ... just follow directions. We order the 12 oz. refill for best value. Good Luck! Thats what I was going to suggust. After hearing so many amazing stories that I could hardly believe I decided to see for myself and IT IS TRUE! The stuff is as amazing as people say it is. Absolutely has done an unbelievable job for me and I put it to the test w/ a 14, 11,10,8 & 5 year old! I use the spray though because it is quicker but from what I heard spray or gel doesn't make any difference. PatricksMom
Since money is an issue, you might ask your vet about Care Credit. It's a credit card that can only be used for vet bills (and human medical stuff), and depending on the vet's relationship with the company and the total bill, you can get 6-18 months interest free. Quote Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019). Guest FastDogsOwnMe
Hi all, sorry it took so long! This morning we had blood drawn and a full exam and work up. I took her swimming at the beach (along with everyone else- sorry, no pictures) while I waited for the call. Got the call around 4PM Eastern time that her bloodwork is perfect!!! She is cleared for surgery, and she will have the dental tomorrow! I am thrilled. Think good thoughts... the vet feels the small tumors she has are not worth the extra time under nor the expense to me, so I am going to take his advice and leave them alone. They do not cause her any pain. She needs muscle tone in a BIG way, but swimming will do wonders for that. So, this is a happy day! PS I want to thank the kind soul who called the vet and made a donation towards Vikki's care. That was incredibly sweet and caring. Vikki is now following me everywhere, wagging her tail at me, and smiling at me. I think she already feels better with the antibiotics! Ruth
I have an almost 11 year old girl that has Hemoangiomas. She has had about 17 removed over the last few years and they always come back benign. My vet now worrys about removing more as they just keep coming back. He is worried that the skin is getting to tight to stitch. She likes to sun so kiddie Coppertone is a life saver. It doesn't really prevent them but does seem to lessen them. I also found that when Ifind one if I put Arnica Gel on it twice a day they will often disappear without surgery. When one breaks open I put Arnica on a piece of gauze and then wrap her with vet wrap to hold it in place. Her chest is very deep so it will all slip back and then you just wash it with warm water and apply a new bandage. She isn't to happy about the new girdle but doesn't bother it. Hope this might help with that worry. Ruth in Idaho
Guest FastDogsOwnMe
Thanks! Any help is very appreciated. She sure had fun today being spoiled. I admit she swam for a couple hours and then had a cheeseburger. If today was, indeed, her last day, it was a good one.
