Guest EmilyAnne Posted January 27, 2010 Share Posted January 27, 2010 Riley , my american eskimo mix crossed over today. He was almost 16, and has been my baby since he was a puppy. A part of me cant believe that those 16 years are over. He was diagnosed with cancer almost 2 years ago, did a few rounds of chemo but it didnt help and only made him sicker. He did surprisingly well for a long time after discontinuation of chemo, and then a couple months ago one of the tumors really became aggressive. It grew so much that it ruptured and was causing a lot of pain. I doubled his prednisone and for the last week have had him on triple dose of pain meds. It was time for me to accept that it is his time, and to do the right thing by him. He is in heaven now, playing with Alfalfa, bouncing around and barking, like he used to before he got sick. It's a good day for Riley, and a painful day for those left behind. My oldest son was able to be there with us, as well as Henry. I am relieved that he is finally out of pain, and free from his failing body. But I am going to miss him so badly. As well as Henry and my kids will miss him terribly too.
