Warlock Needs The Power Of Gt

Recommended Posts

Oh Denise I'm so glad to hear he's making a turnaround. I went through nursing my big guy Sutra back to health after his pancreatitis was left untreated by his former owner and he spent a week or so at the vet and almost died :(

The big main thing is LOW FAT for a diet. Sutra had lost so much weight (he weighed 47 lbs when I got him, he should be between 65 and 70) and he didn't want to eat so we had to get creative with his diet. Today he eats Solid Gold Wolf King as it's low in fat but has good protein and calories.

Feel free to PM me...:grouphug

Warlock is with the local vet now receiving his meds and IV fluids. His prognosis isn't good unless we can figure out what's going on. He has the UTI we've been dealing with and now his pancreas, plus high blood pressure. Today the vet said he doesn't know what to do anymore for Warlock because he has multiple organ involvement.

I've contacted OSU for a consult, but unfortunately Dr. Couto is out until the 6th. I just emailed all Warlock's test results and vet records hoping someone up there will have some suggestions on how to proceed.

If Warlock would just give me some indication he's had enough, I'd know what to do. This morning he scared the bus away, enjoyed laying on the porch in the sunshine, trotted around the yard a couple times and did his normal yard patrol. He's weak but he still wants to do his normal routine, and he held himself up proudly while he did it.

I told the vet this morning, he's not ready to go yet...at least not today.

Is there an internist available where you are? They're more comfortable with complicated situations than regular vets are.

Much love to Warlock! And you too, wonderful mom.

When Sutra's pancreatitis just wouldn't go away, we put him on Zithromax to knock it out. Don't know if what Warlock is dealing with is that simple, but I hope you can figure out what's going on and that he'll feel better soon!

I hope Warlock feels better soon. I know how frustrating it must be not to be able to get a diagnosis.

Here is a dumb question for you... If the vets suspect Cushings, but the test results don't support it, can he still begin treatment or would that be harmful?

Could he have Diabetes and Cushings together? Sometimes that makes diagnosis more difficult.

All the vets are reluctant to start treatment for Cushings because it has the potential to be harmful. When I sent everything to OSU from 5 vets...every one of them mentioned Cushings in their reports, even the vet who did the ultrasounds.

The vets think he has it, but the tests don't support it. I believe he has it and have to follow the recommendations of the vets. The endocrinologist did say he could have it, but still test negative. This episode with Warlock's pancreas is also another thing that goes along with Cushings.

It's so frustrating, but hopefully he'll hang in there until we figure out what's going on. Right now we can only treat his symptoms and keep him comfortable.

I know what you mean about frustrating. No one knows what my Curfew has, and it is scary sometimes. He isn't as sick as your Warlock, but, ... the other night, he had nausea, and panting ... last night, he was fine. I just wish I knew. It is a day by day thing here.

With your guy, It really does sound like you might want to start the treatment for Cushings if all five vets, including OSU think that is what it is.

Good luck, and lots of love!

It is very possible he has Cushing's. My neighbor's Frenchie had it for a maybe a year before they figured out what was going on. Lots of tests, specialists and vet visits. He finally ended up at a vet school to diagnose it. And then the battle to figure out exactly what meds would work for him, and she ended up getting it shipped from the UK as it wasn't available here. She almost lost him a few times and the poor boy was pretty miserable for a long time.

Hang in there sweetie, I'm sure someone at OSU will contact you soon even if Dr Couto is out.

Treating for Cushings when in fact it isin't Cushings, would throw Warlock into an Addisonian crisis, something you do not want to happen.

I have never heard of Cushings affecting the pancreas.

Poor guy, I so hope they can figure out what is going on with him
