Guest VirginiaGreys Posted August 4, 2009 Share Posted August 4, 2009 We adopted Dodge a few days after we adopted Foxy...as a companion for her. They did really well together too. Dodge was such a sweetheart. It didn't start out perfect with Dodge...he didn't know about cuddling...and we worked with him on that. The last few years...if we started cuddling...it was him that didn't want us to stop. He would look at us like..."why are you stopping? I didn't tell you to stop." He was a smart boy...and loved to lay on the couch. If the other greys were there...and he wanted to be there...he'd pretend to have to go pee. So one of us humans would get up and say "who all wants to go outside?"..and as soon as the sofa was vaccated...he'd jump on and smile at his silly sisters for falling for his ole trick again. I couldn't believe it when he started limping...yet again.....and that this time it was that horrible disease attacking him. He had pulled muscles many times...and would always be back to normal within a week. However...this past spring..he didn't bounce back. We chose amputation to hopefully gain more time with our boy. To find out the day of amputation...that our usual cry baby had been stoic and had walked around for a week on a broken leg. He made it through surgery...only to go into organ failure the next day. The vet and I administered IV's for 3 straight days (the vet did the day shift and I the night shift) and we were getting my boy back finally. It was a slow process ...but Dodge was doing pretty good as an amputee until just over a week ago...when the cancer started coming back with a vengence. I didn't want Dodge to suffer ...and although I was giving him pain pills to help with the cancer that had matastasized on his thigh....it was time to let my baby boy go after he started coughing periodically and then over this weekend...a huge lump developed near the amputation site...and may have been what was causing his breathing to be difficult. Yesterday he didn't enjoy going out except to potty and reverted back to only eating his kibble from my hand last night...so I knew it was time to say goodbye for sure. Dodge crossed over this morning gently with his daddy, skin sister and me at his side. Dodge...I love you so much! You'll always be in my heart and in my thoughts.
