Guest Vinnie
Yay, Clark. Keep it up and hopefully you'll be walking on your own again soon. Hope the holistic vet can help as I don't think I would put much faith in a specialist office who would not make an exception for a houndie in distress. Sending lots of healing prayers, hugs and scritches.
Fiona3
I just wanted to confirm that he is moving his legs. Earlier I was messing with his paw and he pulled it away from me. When I started crying and hugging and kissing him he just looked at me like "Lady, what is your problem?!" Things are in the works and things are looking up right now. He is sleeping peacefully next to me. Thank you all for the prayers and words of comfort. I don't hang out in H&M much because it is often so depressing but I can see now how much it really helps to have the support of others and know that everyone is hoping for the best. Thank you all so much. When Hobbes had a "neurological event" in August, 2007, he had the same symptoms as Clark - unable to use his back legs and knuckling under of the feet. It looked very grim so our vet gave him a shot of high dose steroid. We took him home for what we thought was his last night with us. By the next morning he was starting to stand up. There was still some knuckling but day by day there was improvement. Our vet immediately put him on a daily dose of Prednisone. She believes the steroid helped to reduce the inflammation that was prohibiting the use of his legs. At the end of a week he was able to walk on his own (although a bit wobbly) and eventually the knuckling disappeared. We did have to help in getting up in the beginning and I stayed with him outside to be sure he wouldn't fall but I was amazed at how far he would walk (and even run a few times) under his own power. Hobbes was 13 at the time so he had other issues to deal with but steroids proved to be a miracle for us. I hope Clark is responding to the medication in the same way and he is gradually regaining the movement and use of his legs. All my thoughts are with you for the same type of miracle for Clark. Guest LokisMom
Our miracle boy continues to make a dramatic recovery. I opened his crate this morning, turned to get his medicine, and when I turned around, he was heading away from me! He trotted right past me and went up about 4 stairs before I could get to him and stop him! He came back down pretty much on his own too. Once he got down here, he leaned on me while we cleaned him up (he had an accident overnight) and was shaky but standing on his own. He also decided the dog bed I laid him on while I cleaned the crate was not good enough, so he got up and wobbled over to a different bed. He's wobbly and I wouldn't want him to walk on his own but he is improving. I can't wait to hear what the vet says Monday about what it was. It's almost worse now. While I am thrilled with his recovery, he is starting to feel well enough that it is hard to keep him on crate rest. He wants to get up and wobble after us Those prayers are working. Batmom
Any way you can borrow an ex-pen instead of the crate? It would give him a little more room so he doesn't have to lie in it if he has an accident. Lots of prayers that he continues to recover well. Guest LokisMom
Any way you can borrow an ex-pen instead of the crate? I don't know if he was mobile overnight or what but he had tracked it all over the ex pen and his legs were covered. We didn't hear anything so I can't imagine he managed to get himself up and move too much as normally he is too unstable to do so quietly. Of course with the stair incident this morning... who knows. Edited to remove an extra word that snuck in there making the sentence senseless. Edited December 6, 2008 by LokisMom
