I hope that tomorrow when I check in, I will see that your beautiful girl is eating. Edited double post. I guess I'll say TWO prayers! Guest HersheysMom
Not sure if this will make you feel any better. I truely believe that the meds affect their appetite. When Nevada started the cushings meds, she became a VERY picky eater. She use to love canned food...on the meds, she turned off them. I had to start home cooking for her. There were some days where she just didn't want to eat. I felt like a short order cook, trying to please the old gal. Maybe try some home cookin' for the girlie?? Call me if you need me..... I thought of you today Carol.Misty is only getting the meds on Monday mornings so I really don't think it's the meds, plus she gets something for her stomach an hour before meals. And the Cushing's symptoms are still there which leads me to believe that the dose is too low. And even when her appetite was really good, she's still losing weight, not typical if the tumor isin't malignant. As for home cooking, I wouldn't even eat my own cooking let alone subject poor Misty to it. If I haven't said it before, this disease sucks!! Aw, now your cooking can't be THAT bad, Claudia Sending lots of warm hugs and stricthes for dear Misty.

Blaidd49
Please remind me - what is Misty being treated with for the Cushings Pam QC Canada When Misty was dx with Cushings, we knew what we would be in for, a rollercoaster ride for sure. Even knowing this is a brain tumor, I have held on to the statistics that 80% of the tumors are not malignant. I did not put her through the testing because I thought it best to not know. Treatment wouldn't be different so why know? I was excited because she gained back a few pounds but has since lost those and really doesn't want to eat. When she refused ice cream, I knew she really did not feel well. So if you could spare any more prayers, please say a prayer for my little Bo-Peep. Thanks! Guest KyGrey
I am so sorry you are having to go through this with Misty. Lee quit eating a month of so ago. He doesn't have Cushings but he wasn't eating due to his back. The vet told me to cook some chicken and see about giving him that. Chicken is high in protein and it has helped Lee start gaining part of his weight back. He gobbled it like it was his last meal. He is back to eating now that his LS meds have been changed. I would just boil the chicken on the stove. No salt, pepper, or any seasonings added. Maybe you could see if that might work. I don't know the symptoms of Cushings or what exactly Misty if going through. Prayers being sent to Misty. I hope you can get her to eat something. Blaidd49
Hi I tried to PM but could not do so Also, sorry to be coming in "late" on this and hope my questions will not be an annoyance. Was there a particular reason for going with Lysodren vs Trilostane I have first hand knowledge and very close second hand knowledge with both drugs. If she has to have prednisone on a regular basis then I seriously wonder if Lysodren is appropriate in her case. Please understand this is not intended as criticism but is simply observations from dealing with Cushings and a desire to help in any way I can. Claudia, that is good news. Are you going talk to or go to the vet today? I hope it's something that can be fixed with an adjustment of the dosage of her medication. There has been much debate on Lysodren vs Trilostane. All I can say is that my vet prefers the Lysodren and its success rate is much higher than Trilostane. I have had this discussion with 2 other very Grey savy vets and they too suggested the Lysodren. Currently, my vet is treating 12 cases of Cushings, however Misty is the first GH with it in the practice. As for the Pred, she's on a very very low dose and it's only given on Monday and Tuesday. We do the ACTH Stim test on 12/9. Once again, I really do appreciate your input and your concern! Connie, most of the vets are at a conference at UC Davis until next week. I do have my vet's cell phone # should anything happen that I can't handle. ACTH Stim test is scheduled for 12/9. Only after that can we discuss changing her dose. Blaidd49
No Problem I understand there is still controversy regarding Trilostane (my vet does not use it but supports my right to "be different" - a specialist at the veterinary college near us does recommend it as a better first option) Many of the failures with trilostane seem to have been due to starting on too high a dosage and there were also reported compounding problems which is why some folk used to get it directly from England (It is much more widely available now) Our two first-hand successes with trilostane stabilized on 1/4 and 1/8 of the recommended daily dosage. Our only success (and this was second-hand) with Lysodren was also a much lower dosage than expected and needed to be reduced again after a crash which occurred in later years - the good news is that the dog in question was diagnosed at age 8 and lived to be 17. Is Misty also low thyroid?? Misty is lucky to have such a dedicated and persevering owner Pam Pam, I appreciate your input and your experience. There has been much debate on Lysodren vs Trilostane.
