Hindsight is always 20/20 --- we do the best we can w/ the information we have at the time. Don't beat yourself up w/ couldhave/shouldhave/wouldhave. You gave Train a wonderful, happy home, and he knew he was loved beyond measure. Honor that. Remember all the wonderful times you shared. Hold on to him in your heart.
