Guest HersheysMom Posted April 26, 2008 Share Posted April 26, 2008 I know I haven't been on the board much these days....Hershey was having so many issues lately it was just getting too overwhelming for me to post all of the details, but now that we do have a diagnosis I wanted to update everyone. Hershey has been losing weight for several months, but much more quickly in the past 2-3 months. What complicated things more was the fact that he had been losing muscle tone due to hip and hind end issues, which he is seeing a chiropractor for. On top of that, he was fighting two different tick borne diseases and suffering from kidney disease, so we had attributed the weight loss to any or all of these things. He was doing very poorly last week and was admitted to the hospital, where he stayed for several days and was kept on supportive care and had several tests run, and we now have a definite diagnosis of hepatic lymphoma. My husband and I have decided to pursue chemotherapy, and he had his first treatment today. He's doing better at home now with the meds they gave us and seems to have tolerated his first treatment well. Unfortunately, while lymphoma does respond well to chemo, it is a lot tougher when it is in the liver - the prognosis they gave us with chemo was 5-6 months. We'll take it day by day. If he doesn't fair well we will abandon the chemo, but for now he's really shown improvement over the condition he was in last week. Please keep him in your prayers. Thanks. I know how hard you've been working to try and get some weight on him and had started with the chiropractor. Thankfully it sounds like he is doing a little better now. I hope he continues to tolerate the chemo and makes good progress. If there is anything I can do just let me know. Lots of prayers for Hershey, and you, John and Sonie too. If I can help in anyway...Please let me know. It was a time of many ups and downs and we did find some meds to help with her appetite and nausea. I am so sorry. Hug Hershey for me.
