Fiona3 Posted March 24, 2008 Share Posted March 24, 2008 (edited) Over the weekend Hobbes had two or three huge lumps pop out on his spine, pushing the hair away and looking red & swollen. We rushed him into the vet this afternoon and the diagnosis is cancer. They feel it is on his spine and is manifesting as tumors thru the skin. The prognosis is roughly two weeks left for him. It has been a rocky road for him since last August but he has been a trooper and we have been grateful for every day. He will be 14 years old in just 9 days - I can't believe it is finally coming to an end and I can't stop the tears. I guess as time went on it was easy to build a sense of false security. I would appreciate any information or experience anyone has had with this type of cancer. Hobbes is my boy, my gentle soul and I love him so much. I think I'm still in shock even though I have been preparing myself for this day for months. Hobbes had his first "You're being extra-spoiled" meal tonight. I had made a big pot of beef stew so he got lots of big chunks of beef on his kibble. Then when mashed potato time (with his pills) came I mixed in more of the stew and beef. He is still licking his chops and looks very smug - the other pups just got a little taste. I'm hoping we can still have a birthday celebration for him - I had planned a new toy and a cake for him. Maybe I'll make every day his birthday celebration starting tomorrow. Thanks again - it means a great deal to me and Hobbes to have all those good wishes.
