  1. I have a 13 1/4 year old with 4 teeth (canines) who eats kibble with water. The only thing she can't handle is big treats. The dog currently not eating (a recurring problem here at GITroublesRUs) has most of his teeth but has lost his appetite. He still likes treats. We know it's a medical issue; we just haven't figured out what it is yet. Since she's been eating until now, I'd be looking for other reasons for her loss of appetite: kidney, gut, mouth, age...Unfortunately, the list is endless. In the meantime, if she doesn't have food issues, you might try different tasty (soft) goodies like canned food or home-cooked mush or whatever.
  2. I'm so sorry. He was a gorgeous boy. Godspeed Trevor.
  3. I hope the vets can find and fix the problem quickly.
  4. I'm sorry he's not feeling better. I hope whatever it is clears up soon. It's tough when old dears have a bad day or three.
  5. Wow. What a save...no two saves: you figuring out that she needed to get to the clinic ASAP, and the surgeon moving the blockage along without major surgery. Rita is a very lucky girl. Glad she's going to be OK.
  6. I'm so sorry. I'm glad she found her way to you so that she could enjoy the last years of her life in the way she should have enjoyed all of it. I wish she'd been able to stay a while longer. Godspeed Shelby.
  7. I'm so sorry that your precious boy had to leave. Godspeed Milky Way.
  8. I'm so very sorry. My sympathies to your daughter and her family. Godspeed T-Cup.
  9. Woohoo!! I'm so happy that they arrived safely and everything is off to a great start! (Can't wait to see what Cinco gets up to. ) ETA: Heehoo fostered them?!?!?! Well no wonder they're off to such a great start!
  10. Peeing should start any time now, if it hasn't already. Some dogs are more sensitive to it than others, and Lady might be one of the lucky ones that isn't hit hard. It's a pretty good-sized dosage, yes. Years ago Minnie was briefly on 40 mg twice a day; she was underweight at about 40 lbs at the time, and I was told it was the maximum dosage. She was off it for years, and was recently put on 5 mg _once_ a day for appetite; that's a minimal dosage and it didn't have much impact on drinking/peeing, but it has made her eat.
  11. I'm so very sorry. He was a very handsome and special boy. Godspeed Frisby.
  12. I'm so very sorry. Godspeed Aleeya.
  13. No advice, just I hope the second and third opinions give you some other options and hope.
  14. I'm so very sorry. I'm glad Sadie finally found you. I wish she could have stayed much longer. Godspeed Sadie.
  15. I have two on thyroid meds. Given just before meals, which are less than 12 hours apart. They're both fine.
  16. Glad you took him in. Jessie sometimes had terrible breath, but her drinking and peeing was pretty normal until the last couple of months (she lasted almost 13 months post-diagnosis, and was 14 1/4 when I said goodbye).
  17. FWIW, I found that my oldies had trouble with the amount of fibre in Iams. Too much poop and they couldn't hang on. If it's only one small meal, your boy will be eating much less of it, but you might want to start slowly.
