  1. Locally you could check out at uniform supply shop. They often have nurses' scissors.
  2. Where is your greyhound having these encounters? On walks? At friends' houses? At a dog park?
  3. A message from Percy: I yam supposed tu tell yu "Heer tuday, gone negst week". Mama bedder just be talkin' about my teef!
  4. I almost barfed too. And yet he is happy and bouncy and showing no sign of mouth pain. Oh, and he still demands to get a lunch every day too.
  5. His lab work done in July was very good, especially for an old guy. My vet met him 2 weeks later and said his teeth were so so. They did not look like today's pictures then.
  6. Percy loves to eat and this isn't slowing him down. I was told that he enjoys having lunch, in addition to breakfast and dinner. Sure enough, around noon time he will start talking to me. We have 3 waterbowls in the house. One is in Charlie's crate, one big one with the food bowls and one little one beside Charlie's dinner bowl. Mazy will no longer drink from the big bowl. Instead she gets water from Charlie's bowls - yes even sticking her head through his open crate door to get to the bowl there. Water is changed out even more frequently from Percy's bowl, plus it gets washed each time, but Mazy won't even drink fresh water out of it.
  7. Is the black stuff flaking dead tissue?
  8. I don't think so. When Harold had a spider bite it was quickly oozy and swollen.
  9. Percy, almost 12, joined us in July. He only had about 8 teeth. He didn't get a dental before we got him but he had been on an antibiotic for his mouth. This sweet boy had a long mystery history. In the past week his breath got bad quickly. Sometimes there would be a bit of blood on the inner side of that wonky right lower canine. Percy has been a bit hand shy around his head and won't let me get a good look at his mouth. His teeth in July did not look like they are in these pictures. The black stuff appears to be flakes of skin that I can wipe off. Gum line is inflamed. And what's that little red pimple? More black flaky stuff and inflammation and a nasty upper canine. I'll be bringing Percy to the vet on Monday when Mazy gets her swollen toe rechecked. I'm hoping he can either get a dental this week or at least start prophylactics. My sleepy happy boy despite having an unhappy mouth.
  10. A couple of weeks ago Mazy hurt her toe, possibly when she did one of her zoomies. She limped just a little for a few days but her feet looked OK. Then I noticed a swollen toe even though she was no longer limping. She doesn't lick or fuss with it. Vet issued rimadyl and antibiotic rilexene after xraying thinking it was possibly osteomyelitis or a sprain. After over a week the swelling has not come down. We return to the vet on Monday. The pictures aren't the best but any idea what else this could be? On the left is the swollen left outer front toe. (On the right is her right foot, inner side.) On left, left front foot with swollen outer toe. (On right, right foot inner toe.) It's hard to see it but I'm wondering if it was a bug bite. But if it was that surely the swelling should have come down by now and she would have been in pain.
  11. Don't rush him, he's only been there 2 days. Enjoy that he is relaxing and not showing signs of separation anxiety.
  12. I'm guessing he slurps his kibble but can't do a chewing motion for cookies. Without opening his mouth, place your fingers on either side of the jaw at the hinge. Does it feel the same on each side? Thinking possible dislocation.
  13. Mazy has had a swollen toe, front outer foot. Probably got it from zooming in the yard. Not dislocated. Limped a couple days but not now though swelling continues. Vet will check it tomorrow and I want to ask questions about intermittent long term meds for an inflammation like this. I stopped using Fresh Factors because the dogs weren't crazy about eating them and I don't want to have to grind them up. I just started everyone on the Greyhound Gang products, MSM, Vitamin C, Glucosamin and Chondriotin. I like those because they are in powder form. Too soon to see any results yet. So, for occasional use, what might be a safer RX product than Rimadyl or Deramaxx? Also, was it MSM that should be discontinued if a steroid was needed?
  14. Mine rarely burp. If it seems excessive you could try some Gas-X (the original with no additional in it).
  15. Does colloidal silver have a taste? Where do you purchase it?
  16. I had offered to pay for a dental before he came here since the adoption group's vet had lots of greyhound experience, but she said to let it come out on it's own. My vet agreed. What you see in the pictures is all he's got. Doesn't bother him at all. His full panel labs came back perfect. It's a miracle he didn't have heartworms or parasites. When he was playing with a light-color stuffie I did notice some mottled blood stains on it afterward. To help him gain weight he gets 1.5 cups of moistened kibble for breakfast, 1 cup for lunch and 1.5 cups for dinner plus a nice dollop of canned Taste of the Wild beef. He'd probably eat more if we offered it. Percy may eventually let me swipe his mouth with a dental wipe. He needed to continue ear drops and ear cleaning when he got here but he wouldn't let me touch his head initially. While he still doesn't care for the ear drops he will let me touch all over his head.
  17. New old boy Percy only has about 8 teeth. All are in the front. His medical history is a mystery. Vet says remaining teeth are OK although one lower canine is expected to fall out on its own. His breath isn't the best some days. He can't chew turkey necks and his kibble gets lightly moistened. Would a squirt of something like PetzLife help? He's not to keen on a rub down with a dental wipe.
  18. My vet will email me any record I want include digital xrays.
  19. Saying goodbye to the beautiful greyhounds and their friends who left us in August 2015. As you run with the wind send a caress to wipe our tears. Gone but never forgotten. Loved forever. Run free with those who have gone before you. Greet all those that will follow. Kasey Holly Gus Nino Angel Joey Asti Sugar Cisco, the kitty Raina Lulu They'll always be with us, just slightly beyond the point that we can see with our eyes. In our heart, though, they'll be bright and clear, as they always were.
  20. That last picture sums it all up. I love you mom. We had a great life together, didn't we?
