  1. Perhaps your Frenchie's barking gave a signal to your greyhound that he was annoyed. Then along comes the source of that annoyance for a sniff. Seems kinda dumb of the white fluffy's owner to approach and follow a dog that was barking at it. Hopefully the white fluffy's owner has learned a lesson too. Per your description, it didn't appear that your dog has ever been small dog aggressive. But on that day he became annoyed, aroused or overly stimulated and reacted. I agree with the others: do not muzzle, don't let your kids walk your greyhound, and even you should be on a higher level of alertness *just in case* when outside. I would not allow mixing with small breeds at a day care either.
  2. PUPPY!!!!!! I can smell Ruby's sweet puppy breath from here. Oh, wait, did she nibble on the wall? Still cute!
  3. It could possibly be lymphoma. Lumps similar to what you described popped up almost overnight on my Comet and Possum. Both boys were seniors. They were gone in less than 2 weeks. As 3greyjtjoys said, it could also be a salivary duct issue. Or an infection. Check other areas for swelling - see the image on this page: http://www.merckvetmanual.com/pethealth/dog_disorders_and_diseases/immune_disorders_of_dogs/immune_system_tumors_in_dogs.html
  4. Baby steps. Don't rush him into socializing just yet. Too many new places, too many new other dogs and too many new people too soon. I'd wait a few weeks until he's comfortable with you before heading out anywhere, unless it's a greyhound group meet. Making the crate a happy place is a good thing. Meeting the Boston terrier on his turf set him up for a bad encounter. Meeting outside, on leash, preferably walking will help, although the Boston may continue to be a bully. Clicker training is good. Do it when he's hungry so you really get his attention. When that "clicks" for him, try tossing a treat in the car and clicking. In out in out in out in out. Car rides should be to somewhere fun like a drive-thru for something yummy. Pacman will set his own time schedule for relaxing and learning you are his new human. We've had some here who walked right in unfazed to one who hid in the bedroom for months.
  5. I can see why it was so hard to say goodbye. Tess was a beauty.
  6. After only a month and a half everything is still very new for Kelly. So much new stimulation after kennel life limited to just greyhounds. I'd say give her more time to settle in before going on lots of outings. She's telling the other dogs she's uncomfortable - so listen to her.
  7. I am so sorry to hear this Bill. Farewell Richy................
  8. Read the section on Acute exertional rhabdomyloysis from here: http://retiredgreyhounds.info/forums/viewtopic.php?p=13605 •Dogs show distress after a race and exhibit pain when palpated over the back and hind limb muscles. •Urine may or may not be red-tinged,but will test positive for myoglobinuria. 9. She was meant to be with you. If only it could have been forever. You helped her become a happier, confident dog and a loving companion.
  10. Shannon, I am so sorry for your loss of Timmy. Such a beautiful love story.
  11. Mazy just chilled out on it. She wasn't a slug and still ate well. It only lasts 4 hours. We only used it a few times. I'll check on the dosage after work later. Read up on any side effects. My vet wanted to check Mazy over while she was on it.
  12. Post-op cold laser therapy may speed up healing. Is that included in your surgical estimate?
  13. Our first mutt Rosie weighed around 55 lbs. She had the ACL surgery in 1994 and cost around $800. She was young and the vet warned us that the other leg would need the same surgery within a year or so. He was right. Recovery was easy as she wasn't a runner like greyhounds are. We only had to limit her from getting up on the couch.
  14. From Dr Stack's site: http://www.greythealth.com/anesthesia.html She also has info on lab results.
  15. Welcome home Stretch! I love baby landsharks puppies. We'll be expecting lots of pictures
  16. Gosh, that was a lot of fluid that came out. Although I have not had your experience with my dogs, my mom had ovarian cancer. She ignored her swelling, sloshing abdomen and did not tell her doctor. She had 2 liters of fluid drained multiple times. That fluid was the primary indicator of her body's response to the cancer. I say this not to dishearten you. I think you would move mountains for your girl.
  17. Gas leak, approaching storm's electricity in the air, ghosts? Would a Kong with peanut butter distract him enough to keep him upstairs?
  18. Ask about Trazadone. It didn't make Mazy acted drugged, just calmed, the few times we really needed it. It only lasts for 4 hours. After seeing how frantic she was at the clinic, my vet wanted to observe her there while on the Trazadone. She then gave us the OK to use it.
  19. I am so sorry that your beautiful Mira had to leave you. I will add her name to the list of Bridge Angels.
  20. I have no advice, just Google scares the heck out of me sometimes, but this does have a list of breathing problems: http://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/respiratory/c_dg_dyspnea_tachypnea_panting
  21. Saying goodbye to the beautiful greyhounds and their friends who left us in May 2015. As you run with the wind send a caress to wipe our tears. Gone but never forgotten. Loved forever. Run free with those who have gone before you. Greet all those that will follow. Dazzle Sallie Ettie Bonny Bobber Karma, the lovely mutt girl Timmy Pablo, the chicken Mystique Richy Matawan FTH PillowTalker, aka Stickman/Stickers, one of the Banjo Boyz Lisa Durango Tess Bea Cashy Banjo, the little fella from England Barb York, mom to Rona and Nova Pistol Quinn Mac Buddy, the dachshund They'll always be with us, just slightly beyond the point that we can see with our eyes. In our heart, though, they'll be bright and clear, as they always were.
  22. Was the urine sample the first catch of the day?
