  1. I did not know anything of alternative therapies when Lazer first collapsed. The week prior, I met a gal while purchasing dog food - we struck up a conversation, exchanged numbers - and to be honest, i kind of forgot about her. She called 2 days before we were going to let Lazer go -- he was that bad and we were not given any hope for his survival. When She came over: she started applying oils and gave me a bunch of almost empty bottles to apply on him and to hold me over until i purchased my own. She Also gave me several supplements to help support his heart and kidneys. The supplements are made for people, so we did some adjusting of dosages for Lazer specifically. Debbie is not a vet or a dr. but she does have a huge knowledge of how the body works and was instrumental in keeping Lazer alive. I saw a difference in Lazer within an hour of her applying the oils! and 2 days later we were ordering HUGE quantities of oils and supplements and began our incredible learning process. I purchase my own oils now but still have to go thru my friend to order the supplements. They are distributed thru a medical practitioner only. The book I have now is called " Quick Reference Guide for Using Essential Oils" by Connie and Alan Higley There are a lot of other books out there,, some specifically geared towards animals. the "Higley Guide" is a good place to start with all kinds of good information in it. Lazer has gone thru a serious Detox protocol that was not easy for his body to handle. If he had not done this, I don't believe his body would have healed the way it did. I still give him supplements daily, along with the prescriptions from the cardiologist and he gets a nice dose of oils morning and night. Bonus: my house smells great! that's it, in a nut shell --- there are never short or easy answers when talking about Lazer and his medical history. good luck in your quest of alternative therapies! let me know if you have other specific questions,,
  2. page 3, #47 - update Lazer is Celebrating his One year Anniversary of Life after Death! and if lazer is celebrating - that means i am too. I wanted to share my journey with you ~ everyone in H&M has been such a wonderful support group for me,. sorry, it's long and might be a bit tooo much, but this is it ~ grab a glass of wine, or a cup of coffee and enjoy! On Aug. 9th last year, neither DH or I knew that our lives were going to be turned upside down. That we were to start a journey of faith, learning and acceptance. That a new world of Energy and healing was going to open up, guiding us thru a maze of uncertainty I recently found out that Lazer has a guardian angel. Someone from his past that is with him almost all the time. Maybe it is someone he wanted to “go” to and stay with when on Aug. 10th last year, Lazer died in my backyard. When I found him he was calm but not breathing and he did not have a heart beat. I want to believe he was with his guardian Angel and that he was not afraid. I gave him CPR and selfishly brought him back to me. It took several minutes before Lazer was able to “think” straight. I could see it in his eyes, he was trying to make sense of what was going on. He eventually stood and walked over to his cushy bed where he laid down again. From this moment, my life changed,, his did too! Lazer had a Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) which occurs when a blood clot lodges in one of the arteries that feed into the lungs. Blood that clots too easily, can predispose a dog to thrombus (blood clot) formation. Most of the time, PTE is caused by another underlying disease. In Lazers case, it is Glomerulonephritis, a type of kidney disease where part of the kidney that helps to filter waste and fluids from the blood is damaged and leads to protein loss in the urine: Proteinuria. Protein loss (anti-thrombin) is what prevents the blood from clotting. Pulmonary thromboemboli (blood clots) can originate in the right atrium of the heart, or in many of the major veins throughout the body. As the dog's body makes oxygenated blood to deliver to the heart and lungs, this clump of blood cells is carried through the bloodstream toward the lungs, where it gets caught in a narrow portion of one of the passages of the arterial network that feeds oxygenated blood to the lungs. In this way, the blood flow through that artery is halted, and oxygenated blood is not able to reach the lung. The severity of the condition is, to a degree, dependent on the size of the blood clot. Thromboembolism is the cause of death for at least 13% of dogs with glomerular disease. Much of the blame has been placed on anti-thrombin, which is lost through the damaged glomerulus. Risk of thromboembolism is greatest when anti-thrombin is less than 75% of normal. This correlates with a serum albumin of approximately 2.0 g/dl. ( at the time of his collapse Lazer’s Albumin level was 2.0) *most of the paragraph above is from web site: www.merckvetmanual.com All this medical stuff just means that Lazer is really sick and his prognosis is poor. During that initial ultrasound, we could see the thrombus. Then we realized, he had not one, but 3 major blood clots in his heart and pulmonary artery. His blood test results showed him with very low albumin levels and his urinalysis showed very high protein loss. The fact he is alive for us to even do the ultrasound is a major miracle. The cardiologist and internal specialist and the vet. office on the corner who first saw Lazer, all gave us the option of euthanasia. They said Lazer would not survive even a week. With prescription meds, herbal supplements and the use of therapeutic grade Essential Oils, Lazer has beaten the odds. We have gone through months of giving him sub Q fluids and administering pills 4 times a day. Applying Oils 4 times a day. Feeding him ANYTHING he would eat - 4 times a day. Through months of non-stop prayer and worry, watching him be brave and trying to listen to him - not wanting to hear his plea for release,,, but being prepared to give it, if he asked Lazer is not cured: he still has a thrombus in his right atrium. The other 2 clots have completely resolved and are gone! And His blood pressure is under control. He has a very low Valley Fever titer, a specific desert southwest, airborne fungus. He has a reoccurring limp that is worrisome. His blood and urine values have been stable all year. He has terrible teeth! In fact we believe that the bacteria from his teeth and other toxins and pesticides are the root cause of his disease His symptoms are being managed and we are living every day knowing he is a miracle. Lazer loves to go on his daily walk ~ if the temperature is under 80 degrees and he loves to get in the pool afterward for a quick cool down “swim”. He is a SMILER! and will woof for his favorite treats. He plays with Squeaky toys. He is living the good life ~ one day, one moment, one breath at a time. This last year has been an incredible journey. I have made new life-long friends who have been my advisors and the voice of reason thru some pretty crazy times. I have learned to trust alternative therapies and testing and treatments, that I used to dismiss as voo-doo. I have gained confidence in my intuition regarding the health of my dogs. And I have a wonderful family who has supported my endless hours of research and nursing, many times to the exclusion of cleaning the house or making dinner. Lazer turned 6 yrs old in May. He is a young ~ happy boy, who I’d like to see live another 6+ years!!! I don’t know what the future holds for us ~ but I do know that I want to live my life as our dogs do ~ one moment, one cookie, one nap,,,, one day at a time. if you made it this far ~ Thank you so much for reading! Live each day with your loved hounds and humans ~ you never know what tomorrow will bring YEA ! LAZER ,,, you made it buddy, your mom and dad love you!!! :beatheart
  3. sounds like you have done all the right things! Praying for Missy that she does fine thru surgery and has a swift recovery! oh, these doggies of ours.. giving us all grey hair before our time!
  4. Sounds like a type of seizure. I would be trying to get her mobil and into the vet ASAP --- don't think i could wait for a call back! Even a blanket under her, gather the corners and hold tight to move into your car. praying for you and her that you can get some help and into the vet right away!
  5. OMG -- that's high from what i'm paying $100 initial visit, $50 for all following apts the apt. usually takes the better part of one hour this is Phoenix price -- and i know there are other places in town that charge a lot more!
  6. There are several Essential Oils that have blood thinning properties. Wintergreen Clove and other essential oils that help the heart Aroma Life Some specific Enzymes will work the blood - when given on an empty stomach Neprinol AFD is the best one in my opinion -- $$ but worth it! i sell a specific brand of oils - pm me if you are interested
  7. My dogs are on Get Up and Go supplements as well as the Yucca and Fish oil. You can see the Yucca working on the dogs right away. the other supplements take a couple weeks to really see their full effects.
  8. I always go to the Green Bag when mine have issues.... it works wonders!
  9. Are you going to Cottonwood Animal Hospital? Dr.Cox is wonderful there!!! we have gone to him for years!,, as is Dr. Law mostly orthopedic.. and Dr. Bagley also has tons of greyhound experience too. Cottonwood is the only place i would go in the valley for serious issues such as this! I recently moved to Az,, was in SLC for the last 15 yrs!!! if his thyroid is off,, that could trigger a seizure. I hope you can figure this out quickly --- sounds very stressful for both you and your dog
  10. I literally gasp out loud when I saw the title. i hardly know what to say You gave her a wonderful life,, and she gave you one right back! Ekko ---may you have endless rolls of TP to keep you happy! you will be missed every day!
  11. Apparently ligaments don't repair like tendons. darn it! I hope Opal has an easy surgery and fast recovery I hope your wallet has a fast recovery too!
  12. My angel Rascal tore the achillies tendons in BOTH back legs,, at the same time. my vet repaired the tendons. Rascal had full casts on both back legs for what seemed like for ever!!!! he had to do some physical therapy but he healed - walked, trotted and even was able to break into a slow run everyonceinawhile.... He was happy and pain free. Can a ligament be fixed / repaired like a tendon can be? it might be easier than putting in a plate? cheaper?
  13. VERY FUN!!! i'm going to try it --- i am always wanting something to protect their feet - even if it's just a walk from the car to the store or vet. the pavement gets sooo hot here! Thank you for the greyt idea!!!
  14. Please keep in mind that the asphalt will retain heat long into the night. Cement is cooler -- i am in AZ and my saying is, if I don't get the dogs out for their walk by 6:30am (in the summer),, then forget it. As it was this morning, my thermometer read 84F at 6:30am,,,, we stayed home. Luckily we have a big yard both grass and dirt,,, and a pool,, so My kids might want to go for a walk, but are fine without as well.
  15. My 9yr little girl,, healthy as a horse,, the only one in my pack that i don't worry about,, until now
  16. I have been feeding grain free for a while now... then due to some diarrhea issues, I recently switched to the all powerful Iams Green bag! after 2 weeks of solid poops everyone is happy except spirit who is now showing signs of incontinence... Is this a coincidence? should i find a grain free they all can eat with no adverse reactions,, either with pee or poop --- thanks! what we would all give for a magic wand,,, i need an emoti that sprinkles fairy dust!
  17. Yes, all things happen for a reason --- Lazer was not supposed to have a dental this week. I'm ok with that and will work on his teeth here at home. I may try something like a non-anesthesia "awake" dental cleaning. Lazer has such a soft, gentle spirit and gets pretty ~ VERY ~ nervous at the vet office. between his teeth chattering and his legs shaking and jumping around from nerves,, might be tough to do this kind of treatment.
  18. Well, it's been a long couple of weeks leading up to NO DENTAL. Lazer is fine, happy and taking his morning nap I, on the other hand, have been running the gauntlet, and dealing with Veterinary Dental EXTORTIONIST!!! I found board certified dental specialists who said Lazer's mouth looked basically dirty, no real problems, no roots showing, no gum receding.... and then proceeded to charge me $2,000 for his dental!!!!!! if I wasn't so i would have been and this didn't even include the extra charge for the anesthesiologist (add $1000) they insisted their price is fair for the "complicated nature" of Lazers Dental --- what complicated nature,, general cleaning is what it sounds like to me from the vets own description of his mouth..... They obviously are SCARED TO DEATH of Lazer and his health history. i bet they are relieved i cancelled --- but they will not confess this -- so, I'm going to try Petzlife gel or spray. Seems like several of you have had good results with that. and maybe a round of antibiotics,, i'll talk to my Dr. V about that (corner vet who I love,, just not for critical things) I don't want to brush just yet - in fear of stirring up bacteria ---- Laser is coming up on his One Year Anniversary in his second life. He is doing very well and his blood work continues to improve and I'm just going to be thankful every day that he is still here with us,,, bad breath and all! end of gauntlet run -
  19. i think there are charts on both web sites that help determine the size you will need. the people at neopaw was wonderful -- i just called and talked to them directly,, we figured it out, and 2 days later, my boy was wearing boots!
  20. another vote for NeoPaws in our experience, they stay on the foot better.. if the 2 feet are: both back,, or both front,, you can get only 2 shoes,, otherwise you will need 4 - you wouldn't want Gary to be all lob-sidded,, it could be back on his back.
  21. keeping you and Bruiser in my prayers tonight! he sure looks like a sweet boy!!! for Bruiser for you !
  22. i would make up some Fat Balls raw hamburger, raw egg, molases, cereal, gelatin, oil, and more, i just can't think now everything that goes in there..... and push small sized meat balls down her throat. easily digestible, shouldn't cause stomach upset (or colon) and nutritious. my seniors LIVED on fat balls when they were on their hunger strikes. just push down, they swallow.. good luck!
  23. Jayne, I'm so sorry it was Tess's time to go - they are never here long enough. Let your memories heal your heart, soon you will be able to smile instead of cry - run free Tess, you were well loved and will be missed
