  1. If you have the option of having a veterinary anesthesiologist present for the procedure, I'd definitely recommend going that route! i know this is the best option,, i just might need smelling salts after i write the check
  2. Yes, thank you. I have brought this up to both vets. Lazer is on Plavix and is also using essential oils that are both blood thinning and putting negative charge on his blood cells so they don't stick together. He has been off of plavix now for a week (will be 2 weeks at the time of the dental) and will be off everything else by wednesday to minimize problems.
  3. Dental postponed... friday will be a pre-dental exam.. the Dr.s are pretty freaked out over his PLN/Heart Clot issues. so, they want to see him first hand,, see what his mouth looks like... they want to be as prepared as possible... i'll let you know when we schedule the dental... Thanks for all the prayers and positive energy! Happy Monday everyone -- I haven't given an update on Lazer for quite a while -- we have had some ups and downs as to be expected but overall,, he's been dong GREYT!!!! if someone knows how and wants to put a link to previous threads about his collapse, please do so great in fact that we decided to take the last steps to get rid of bacteria and toxins from his mouth -- he is scheduled for a dental of Friday. He has always a had bad, bad, bad mouth... very red, inflamed gums and terrible tarter on his teeth and dragon breath! We are positive his PLN can be traced right back to his teeth! (blood clots from the pln, and stroke from the blood clots and i gave him cpr to bring him back from death caused by the stroke) SO ~~~ dental it is! To say that i'm nervous and scared is an understatement. But I found a Veterinary Dental Specialist (board certified) in the area. They have the best, newest equipment and can get the job done in the shortest amount of time. I fully expect Lazer to loose teeth - probably several. The dental specialist has been talking to Lazer's cardiologist --- between the two of them, Lazer has the best team around. we may even have to enlist a anesthesiologist,, just to monitor his vitals thru this process. $$$$$$$ what is money for anyway? Lazer's blood work has continued to improve. His weight is up. His attitude is happy and sweet goes on walks with me every morning and plays fetch with his squeaky toy in the yard every evening! he continues to be on several supplements daily and prescription meds too. My biggest concern and the vet's too, is that He does still have the remnants of a blood clot in his heart. last time we looked at it, it had shrunk by 1/2.. however it is still there -- the other 2 are completely GONE!!! Please keep my sweet boy in your thoughts and prayers as we go thru this week (for me too ~ as long as i'm asking) Friday morning is his dental...... i need lazer to live a long, long, long life!!! Thank you !!! lorinda
  4. I use sun screen on my dogs when i know we will be outside all day --- and that is in the fall/winter/spring months... Living in Arizona, we don't do much outside in the summer! I typically will use a baby sunscreen, sfp 15-25 ,, anything higher than that seems crazy and sticky and feels yucky. i put it on their chest, stomach, legs, nose. My angel Peppy was a white boy and almost bald ., so he always got completely covered. AND I alway give them a Bath after a day in the sun with sun screen on them. just makes me feel better so they must feel better too, right.
  5. I'm sorry you didn't have more time with Dreamer! Soon your memories will bring you joy ~ until then, know that you gave her a wonderful life and know that she loved you right back!
  6. What hunch? --- my boy Lazer has a really high arch in his back, it's almost always there. yet He is solid when i do my own amateur test for LS.... my girl Spirit seems solid, active, healthy, no apparent problems, but when i do my amateur test, she buckles her back legs.... her back looks "normal" no hunching that I can see..... I'd love to understand what the hunch is. can you explain it for us Thanks!
  7. I hope the both of you will get a good nights sleep! and that you have news tomorrow.
  8. While living in Utah, we would hike a 6 mile RT trail.. a day trip - that had a lake at the top of the mountain where all the dogs could lay in to cool off. All the greyhounds made it just fine, some with more enthusiasm than others. elevation aprox 6500 ft,, many times there is still snow up at the top. all greyhounds were kept on leash while hiking. so there wasn't a lot of exploration or "hunting" going on.. figure a 6 mile hike is good enough! have fun!
  9. My boy Lazer has been thru a lot of cardiac things in the last year. not from heart disease but ultimately from PLN. so I understand your concern and desire to learn more about this condition.... Lazer had 2 blood clots in his heart. one was in his tricuspid valve (it has diminished significantly) he has been in arterial fibrillation.. a quivering type of contraction of the heart muscles, since last August. he has lowered circulation *from the clots in his heart. this is all from PLN (protein loosing nephropothy) --- everything is under control and getting better with medications and alternative therapies. I hope you get answers from OSU and that it is treatable, and that your girl is on the mend soon! good luck!
  10. i use raw hamburger to get 15+ supplements into Lazer daily! don't know what i'd do if he wouldn't take the meat-balls stuffed with supplements
