  3. Bill and Irene, I'm so very sorry for your loss.
  4. I'm so very sorry for your loss.
  5. I'm so very sorry for your loss. She was definitely a special girl. Godspeed sweetie.
  6. I was able to control Bullitt's kidney disease very well by controlling his high blood pressure with his meds and a kidney diet. He lived for another year and a half before he passed away from something unrelated to his kidney disease.
  7. She was a beautiful. Godspeed Bonny. I'm so sorry.
  8. Could something have startled him upstairs when no one was home? He sounds anxious, as if something has scared him. Give it a couple of days and see if he settles down.
  9. Be very careful with adding different things to her food. You can see she's already started picking out the good stuff. You can actually create a picky eater by changing things up to much. A healthy dog will not starve themselves, they will eat when they need to. She's really new and unsettled right now. Routine is your best buddy right now. Once she figures out the mealtime routine she'll eat better. Right now just put her food down for 15 minutes. If she doesn't eat it all, pick it up and put it in the fridge and put it back down at dinner. Doing this for a few days teaches her she has to eat when it's offered or she will be hungry. I've had 16 hounds and used this technique with each one and never had issues with any of them unless they were sick. If you have a sick dog, then you feed them what you can get them to eat until they are well again.
  10. If she's licking her rear, she may be licking the bed at the same time. You would be amazed at how wet they can get things by just licking them. Checking to make sure it's not urine is a good idea.
  11. Bandita lets out a really loud feel good groan when she lays down. It cracks me up because it's usually followed by a loud sigh.
  12. That's great! Getting kidney dogs to eat can be so hard and frustrating!
  13. Brie, I'm so very sorry for your loss.
  14. You can get calcium carbonate from Amazon. You can also order it from most on line health food stores. I had a hard time finding it at my local health food stores. I purchased Bullitts multi vitamins from Amazon but you can get them at any pet store. His fish oil I got at Costco but you can get it at most grocery stores.
  15. My vet suggested Proviable for my older hounds. It comes in capsule form and can be put in a pill pocket and given once a day. It's a great probiotic. My Pistol gets it daily to help keep his stools firm. I get it from Amazon or you can get it from most vets.
  16. The only kidney food I was able to get Bullitt to eat was Royal Canin's kidney food and he would only eat the canned. It was quite expensive. The rest of the time I cooked a low protein, low phosphorous diet for him that consisted of 2 oz. of either high fat hamburger or chicken with either white rice or boiled potatoes. He also had to have a multi vitamin every day and a tablespoon of calcium carbonate added to each meal. Dogaware.com is an excellent source for foods and recipes and information on kidney disease. I used it quite a bit.
