  1. Giselle, thank you, I was thinking that it might be some "senior-ism" Very interesting.
  2. Does anyone know the dental protocol for greys?
  3. Lou will be 12 in December. He has always been the cool Lou. No barking, sleeping when not eating, you know, cool and layed back. I will back track a little. in april we lost my brindle Plummer. I did notice Lou whinning some. But now his whinny is daily and several times a day. He also has started barking at his bedding. I just don't get it!!! I purchased a orthopedic bed, I make it fluffy etc. Barking at his bedding has become daily also, not like him. Where do I start? I mad an appt. for his chiro on Monday nite. He has gone in the past for a neck issue, I am not sure if he is in pain or not. I don't think so, he would whimper if he moved the wrong way.. Vet visit and cancel chiro?? Any experience in change of behavior with seniors would be appreciated. thanks
  4. Could she be eating to fast? Also, I would video tape when it happens and forward to your vet. The vet should be able to tell if her regurgitation is coming from the stomach or if it never reached the stomach. Keep us posted.
  5. Take a deep breath. You are both getting to know each other. Might be a problem if you are leashing him while he is laying down. Call him, to you, pat your leg, say "come" every time you go for a walk. He will pick up the come command. If you need to bribe him at first, grab a goodie, pat your leg, command "come" leash him up, give goodie, take control and off you go. Persistence, persistence, persistence. Keep us posted and I am sure many people on this board can help you. Good luck.
  6. Love both those products, Lou's coat is so shinny. I ordered from Amazon.com and was able to use some points I had racked up.
  7. Where was Sweetie prior to you fostering? She is beautiful.
  8. I use pepcid on my grey when I hear the stomach gurgling. Works all the time.
  9. He might be eating to fast?? Sounds like reverse sneeze. Try hand feeding to see if he reacts the same. Process of elimination.
  10. I avoid giving any high yummy treats for that reason. However, the training should continue regarding "drop it" and being able to trade the food bowl if need be. I usually start by just brushing by when they are eating to see if there is a reaction. Then petting the hind quarters for a second while eating and observing if there is any reaction. Personally, I would just stop giving the bones and forget the rawhide! Good luck.
  11. Wonderful tribute. Wink was very special as are you.
  12. Can you get a video of him and email to vet. I thought my Plummer was vomiting but when I sent the video, he was spitting up. Coming from a different area.
  13. Such good news. Please encourage newbies on this topic, you have the experience.
  14. Does anyone have experience with this? Lou definitely needs a dental but between expense and the fact he will be 12 I am hesitant. I don't understand how this process works and does it hurt the doggies?
  15. Sounds like the trust is enveloping. He trusts that you will return. Good work from both of you.
  16. I am sure it is not depression. With proper exercise and alone training, this is what they do. They wait until you get home so they can entertain you. If you are feeling guilty for him get a neighbor or dog service to come for about 30 min. a day. They can take him for a walk and give him a snack. You will see such happiness then!!! Glad things are doing better.
  17. Just love your effort. It will work out. You might try a little Rescue Remedy, holistic drops sold at health food stores. The Kong should stuffed with a high treat value he can't live without. I would try the liver treats with yogurt and frozen. Given to him just before you open the door and leave. As far as concrete, should be no problem and helps keep the nails filed. Keep up the good work, it is intense but payoff is wonderful. Post some pics of your doggie.
  18. try moving the crate in the LR while u r home and leave crate door open. See if this makes him more secure. Remember, it has been less then a week for all to adjust. Shut all bedroom, bathroom doors, walk in and out all day. I mean ALL DAY. What are you giving him in his kong? He has to LOVE whatever is in it, frozen peanut butter, yogurt, liver goodies etc.
  19. Congrats and you sound very versed on your training. 4 Days is way to early for your hound to figure his new life out. I would continue to do the alone training. Do it when you are home. Make the ritual of putting the radio on, grabbing keys, purse, give kong, open door go out, for 1 min. come in. Wait about 10 minutes, radio on, gram keys, purse, give kong go out. Return in 5 minutes. Etc. Etc. The object is to confuse the heck out of him. When I leave all I say is "see you later". No fuse, leaving and no fuse coming home. Taking the dog for a long walk before leaving helps tremendously. Keep us posted but you all need more time.
  20. Definitely start the " watch me" training. Take a treat that is very interesting to her on your walks. Start the training in a control area, backyard, in home etc. Let her sniff the treat, hold it up to your face and repeat "watch me" when she does she receives the treat. Start practicing on walks, prior to her seeing another dog. She will catch on.
  21. He is in greyt company with all the rainbow bridge angels. Take care of yourself.
  22. So sorry, he was a beautiful boy. He thanks you. He is pain free and in greyt company with all the angels.
  23. So, so sorry for you both. You are not alone.
  24. Dandi will be in good company with my Plummer, a real sweet boy who will show him the ropes.
