My Lou has just been diagnosed with early onset kidney failure. I am waiting for a copy of the blood work and UPC. Has your vet performed a UPC? sobesmom who is on Greytalk has written plenty re: this issue. I have just started Lou on Wellness Complete Health (however, Lou has not lost any weight) This food has low protein and phosphorous. I boiled chicken thighs and add it to his 1 cup of Wellness. I have also added rice. Lou has just started this regimen, so I won't know if it will help until blood work is repeated. Vet also has put him on Enalapril 5mg every 12 hours. Facebook has a group Greytalk where you can get info. Good luck to you and your pupper.

Do you suggest Distilled water only if you have well water or use for kidney doggies?

Lou is 13 and has been drinking a lot of water and having accidents in the house. Blood work done and Vet thinks he is in early stage of kidney failure. He will be doing more urine testing soon. Anyone have and experience with this please if you can give me info and good hints as how to help Lou. I am starting him on the low protein prescribed food.

Are you adopting greys for the first time? Will they be right off the track or have they been fostered? I personally like the idea of first timers adopting dogs that were fostered. This way you can get valued info from the foster parent. When I adopted straight of the track I used a crate until there was a mutual trust that the dog could roam the house with no potty problems or destruction. I also managed to take at least a Thurs. and Fri. off from work so I had 4 full days with the dog. I started alone training immediately. There should be a a topic on the forum for alone training. Good luck, each dog is different.

Yes, GoodRx is a godsend. My vet was going to charge me 100.00 for meds I got and Costco for 28.00.

My Lou had that for years. The first night we adopted him we had to rush him to E-vet. I have had him to vet chiro which helped, but I always have deximethisone (sp?) in the house as well as a muscle relaxer. Symptoms will happen when you least expect it and having these meds on hand helps tremendously along with rest. Good luck

How do you know if your dog has fleas? What are the signs?

I use Petfirst. For 17.00 a month. It is bear bones but Lou is 12. They just reimbursed me 200.00 for Vet visit and medicine for bee bite. Give them a call. They have other plans also.

Continue what you are doing, you are doing greyt!!! Alone training is very successful. Is there a trusted neighbor who can check on him or take him for a walk while you are at work? Leave a radio on when you leave. Don't make it a big production. Say good bye see u later. Also, you might want to try Rescue Remedy which is sold in Vitamin shops. But if you pupper continues to do well, you probably don't need it. Good luck and keep us posted.

Has the dog been tested for Cushings. Dogs will pace in circles with Cushings.
