  1. Returned from vet, had bloodwork done, seems ok for an almost 13 year old. Plummer had upper neck x-ray and nothing was seen there either as in stomach xrays from last week. He hasn't vomited in the past 2 days, put has spit up after getting up from lying down position. He received B complex shot to try to make him stronger. Poor baby of mine, he is not in any pain and it seems it will be palliative care for him now unless he makes a complete turn around. He is on Carafate and STAT a high calorie supplement. My worries are that I must go to visit my son in Chicago next week, of all times. Plummer will be in capable hands, I pray no decisions have to be made at that time. Please keep us in your prayers and all paws crossed.
  2. We are off to vet this PM. I spoke to her about others on this post. She really feels it is tummy related. However, I want blood work and x-ray of throat, sinuses performed. We will see.
  3. Started the Claritin. Happy to report we had a no vomit day yesterday. He did have a few reverse sneezes. But he hasn't done that in awhile. He continues to eat small meals and then I give him a cocktail of Pedialyte and Ensure. Lethargic but I hope that changes as he puts on the pounds. Keep paws crossed.
  4. ok, thanks, Claritin or Zyrtec will be on tomorrow's menu. Will keep you posted. Keep all paws crossed.
  5. I am trying Benedryl, thanks for the suggestions of allergy. I have had this notion that his problem is around the throat area. He seems to swallow hard, when I walk him, he seems not to like the collar on his neck, I have had a "mother's feeling" that most of the symptoms seem in the head area. We will see, I pray that he will be comfortable and no more vomiting. FYI, the vomiting has been very watery, mucus, more then food. thanks again. How much Claritin are you giving?
  6. Mona, thanks so much. It was not a long story. I so appreciate it. Funny you should say post nasal drip. A vet who I sent the video of the hacking to also stated it could be post nasal drip, but when I sent him the vomiting video, he then did not think it. I am going to talk to my vet and show her your story, got nothing to loose, will keep you posted, again, thanks
  7. Plummer continues to vomit at least once a day. I have tried changing foods, adding Pediolyte to his food, feeding canned chicken. X ray reveals nothing, but vet seems to think underlying problem going on. Plummer is on medicine to control regurgitation, Reglan. He will be 13 in June, I do not want to put him through invasive testing. I am so worried as he is skin and bones. He poops, pees, eats, walks, gleam still in his eyes. Any suggestions or experience with this would be grateful. I have to travel in a couple of weeks and I am so anxious to leave him. However, the sitter has greys and is very experienced.
  8. I am so sorry, you are making a decision that is best for her. We are with you.
  9. Another taken to early, I am so sorry for your loss. Take care of yourselves.
  10. My personal opinion, experienced dog owner or inexperienced dog owner (grey or not) NO DOG PARKS. Can you answer an y of these questions with a yes when taking dogs to a dog park? Do I know the personality of every dog that enters? Never mind the owner's personality. Can you guarantee that your dog will not grab a little yapee dog and kill it? Can you guarantee a larger dog then a grey will not attack your dog? Is there some kind of mechanism that is in park that could possible break up a dog fight? I say NO is the answer to all these questions which = NO DOG PARK. JMO
  11. Bonding is the key, and the best bonding is walks. I also took off a couple of days to do alone training and get my pups into a routine. Bonding, routine, alone training, referring to this board for all your info and questions. Wishing you luck and happiness and of course you must post pictures.
  12. X-ray really did not reveal Megaesophagus.. X-ray was actually clear, for esophagus and stomach. Vet suggested that there is something underlying going on. As Plummer will be 13, I have chosen not to do any more testing. He will be eating mush food, he needs to put on weight, he lost 4 lbs. So I will continue to love him, spoil him, and try to fatten him up. The good news is that he did not regurgitate today, keep everything down. Weak on walks, so I make them shorter, he is sleeping more, but jumps up when he hears me fixing his food.
  13. I am also adding Ensure, yogurt and sometimes cottage cheese. Will try the peanut butter. Vet feels that hard kibble soaked overnight and then put in food processor is more nutritious then canned food.
  14. Returned from vet with Plummer, xray of esophagus and stomach, lungs are clear. No obvious sign of Megaesophagus. Plummer lost 4 lbs and Vet feels there is underlying things going on. Will continue with soft foods, and original meds and now Reglan. Plummer is weak and tired, but still has the sparkle in his eyes, one day at a time. Any suggestions on how to fatten him up?
  15. X-ray today, please keep Plummer in your thoughts.
  16. x-ray will be performed Wednesday, I will see vet and I am sure blood work will be performed as he is already on low dose thyroid pills. I just can't see Plummer cooperating re: the special chair. I am hand feeding him now with, canned dog food, made into a paste with oatmeal. Just started that yesterday. I hold a paper plate with his food at a high angle and he eats like that. After he eats I coax him to the couch and put 2 paws up so he is at a angle. A little difficult as his hind legs are weak. This is such a process but Plummer is well worth it. I am going away in April and I have a grey sitter, I pray she doesn't mind all the attention Plummer needs. Plummer and I will work this out, at almost 13 he still wants to be here.
  17. He feels the same and of course suggested x-ray. This sucks!!!
  18. Newgreymom, I cleared my mailbox. I tried to message you also. Thanks for the great idea, I just sent Dr. C both video's for him to view. thanks
  19. Strong possibility that my almost 13 year old, Plummer has Megaesophagus. X-ray will be performed this week. Made changes with to regard to feeding, off kibble, on canned food with shot of Ensure and sometimes oatmeal. I feed him with a paper plate in my hand held high so neck is up. After eating try to have Plummer with front paws on couch to stand in upright position This is such a different world, but doable. Anybody have experience with this syndrome?
  20. Happy to report, the night was good, no incidents. We all sleep like greyhounds!!!!
  21. Thanks Batmom, really hoping for the best. Plummer has had these symptoms for months, so I am thinking if it was C he would have been gone already. Keep praying everyone. Today with new protocol, so far so good, but the night isn't over yet.
  22. It is the hacking cough, and vet said it is regurgitation, not vomiting. Regurgitation is taking place as esophagus is widened and food does not go to stomach.
  23. Vet also mentioned that it could be megaesophagus, which when I researched sounds exactly what Plummer has. Is anyone familiar with this or has a grey with this? Would love some suggestions. So tonight I started a protocol that is followed for Megaesophagus. Smaller, more frequent, thickened, meals. Try to keep from laying down after eating, (yeah right) Priosic 2x daily Limited water Praying that by Tues. this could be under control. http://www.petcarenaturally.com/articles/megaesophagus.php
  24. Spoke with vet. He is regurgitating and changed med to Prilosic (sp?) 2x a day. Limit water with meals. X-ray on Tues. Keep paws crossed please.
