  1. I want to thank everyone for your kind thoughts, I have passed them on to Laura. Ivory is truly missed by her pack, both pups & humans.
  2. :gh_run2Run free sweet girl!! She was 7 years 9 months young Yesterday evening Laura called to say Ivory was bleeding from her nose so I told her to call the vet as that couldn't wait. She called me back in a few minutes to say the young vet said they no longer do emergency after office hour calls & she should take Ivory to a emergency vet office aprox. 50 miles away. I told her to call the vet Jerry uses for his cattle & Jeff said he would be at the office in 20 minutes so off we went. As Laura was filling out the papers to have him check Ivory we asked how he would put her down & he said he used a shot in a leg vein & he asked why we wondered so Laura told him the Joe ( the younger vet) always just gives a shot straight to the heart & since we always hold our dogs as they leave we couldn't deal with that. Jeff was horrified & said no way! He was so gentle as he gave the shot & made sure she had run to the bridge. We knew this time was coming as she had cancer in her spleen but it was way too soon! Ivory was the most beautiful Ivory colored girl with perfect black eye liner. Her nick names were beautiful or mouth as she barked more than any other grey we've ever had & her bark was very high pitched. Sure will miss this girl & I'm sure Bandit will miss his beautiful sister.
  3. Hope Mazy feels better soon. Hugs to both of you!
  4. If you can't get the honey but have a feed store near you buy some vetericyn -kind of pricey but works so well. You can use this on any animal or person. I don't agree with going without pain meds. If I'd been hurt that much I'd sure want something to make me feel better so why not our dogs.
  5. Noelle has been a diabetic since she was 3 months old. At first she would drink a lot of water & there pee it out (very clear pee just like water) I admit it took a few month the get her dose correct but then it isn't so terrible. You need to change to a totally grain free diet & change to 3 meals a day to help keep her insulin levels even. I give Noelle shots in the shoulder area, rotating sides & now she just looks at me like oh ok. Noelle is 8 years old & if you saw her you would never guess she has any problems. Good luck, this is not the most terrible thing she could have but it does take getting used to. Hugs to both of you.
  6. Laura & I made thru yesterday without having to add another angel! Yesterday when Laura called the vet's office to get a refill of meds for one of her girls the girl that answered the phone was afraid she was calling to say we needed to bring in someone else. It's terrible when that's what the techs think when they hear our voices.
  7. With those eyes I can see why you & hubby fell for her. Congratulations to all of you.
  8. Annie was the 13th grey I've lost to cancer. I HATE CANCER!! My oldest boy still won't let me cuddle him, he just pulls away & goes to the pillow in the corner. Thank you to everyone for your kind thoughts they help.
  9. Last week we said good bye to Comet & today it was my Annie who left. 1 June 05 -13 Oct 14 was all she got to live. She was the only pup in her liter & was spoiled so much that she want to learn to run so she came to our group to find a home. She wanted to be my dog but at the time I had too many dogs so we adopted her to what we thought would be a good home but it didn't turn out that way. When she came back to us she attached herself to me so I kept her. In Sept I took her to the vet because she was limping & it was osteo which had spread to her lungs. I brought her home & until this week end she was happy but Sat. she decided she'd had enough so we took our last ride today. Annie was a cat zapper of the first water, she caught 2 cats before I could stop her & then as we were getting her out of the car at the vets she saw 2 cats in a wire crate & she thought they were for her until I told her no. Now Noelle is my oldest dog & I have just the 2 boys here with her. Run free Annie & find Babe & all your friends that went before. Momma loves you & misses you
  10. Comet came to us from Ok about 5 years ago. She wasn't tattooed as she had been a coyote dog that was almost torn in two but still had the most wonderful out look on life. We called her a clown as she would talk & smile all the time. Pitbull rescue pulled her from a shelter & got her to our group as they knew she shouldn't be living on cold conrete. This poor girl had reoccuring ehrlichia but no heartworms. Her kidneys started to shut down a few months ago & this weekend she refused to eat or drink so yesterday Laura & I took her for her last ride. Comet was only 9 so this seems so wrong, she'd had a hard life before coming to us & it seems like she was short changed by only getting 4 good years. Run free Comet, you left 2 houses of heart broken family here. No more pain for you.
  11. Judy, I'm sorry to see this. Bullitt was a fighter& such a sweet boy. Run free Bullitt & find all your brothers & sisters at the bridge.
  12. Poor Brees, that sounds painful! Brees be a good girl for Mom & I bet you'll get more treats. Don't drink beer but would need to reach my water with lime if that was me taking care of her.
  13. I'm with Marge on this. So soory this happened & am sending hugs to you & your friends.
  14. Please stay in touch. So many of us understand how you & buster feel & some day there may be another dog that needs your help.
  15. I was raised in Lincoln but left in '60. My Father was a prof at UNL for 30+years. When I lived there no one had greys & when my parents got their Saulki ( she was from the king's kennel in Saudia Arabia) no one knew what she was. Welcome to GT
  16. Of the 7 I've lost to cancer only 1 was osteo & as cancers go I have to say it isn't the worst, my Ebony had pancreatic cancer which was the most painful . Annie is fighting osteo in her right shoulder ( bone is mostly gone) but still has her 3 A's so I'll keep her as long as she wants. I hate cancer no matter what kind or what creature has it.
  17. As an owner of a seizure dog ( 3rd one I've had) I am so sorry for your loss. We would like you to stay here if you feel up to it, the group has been wonderful & you might be able to help someone later.
  18. Welcome back & your trip down meory lane. I always followed you before & I still wear my Hope for Hounds shirt from the first year you had them to remind people about our dogs. When I say I've lost 7 & have another cancer girl most people are surprised as they didn't realize dogs get cancers too.
  19. Thank G*d for pain meds! Annie feels better today & has even walked down the hall to nap in my bedroom away front from Stretch. Being the clueless boy that he is he keeps pushing & sniffing her for which she has no patience. I keep saying I hope he gets a brain for his 2nd birthday the end of this month. Since Annie is the eith out of 12 greys I've had with cancer I will spoil her all she wants until the end. I'm very tired of having this take my babies.
  20. Beautiful sweet Annie was confirmed with osteo yesterday afternoon. As those of us that have lived with this, I knew when we went in, but hoped I was wrong that her limp & not using the front leg was prob. cancer. The vet tried to tell me we weren't going to even say cancer until I reminded him of all the greys Laura & I have had with this terrible curse. When he showed me the x-ray there was no doubt. It is in the right sholder & her lungs looked bad too. We came home with tramadol & rimadyl & she will stay until she doesn't have the 3 A's & says it's time to send her to the bridge. Noelle is almost as upset as Annie & I are over this, she knows her sister has something wrong & she doesn't want to lose another big girl. I HATE CANCER!!
  21. My oldest boy was always a leg hiker but his younger brother is not. After Stretch came into our house Prince thinks he has to pee on poor Noelle so she comes in & gives her rear a nasty loook while waiting for me to wash her off. I used to use baby wipes but now I just have old wash clths that I use with warm water to clean her. Prince only peed on Annie ( my oldest ) & she must have sent a mental message because he will just stand beside her while she pees. Years ago I took care of a German Pointer thatpeed like a girl & always looke down so he peed on his face!
  22. Glad to see he's doing well. Give him a hug from me please.
  23. Hoping for another good update & sending gentle hus for Toby.
  24. Sending hugs from north TX. Will keep Toby & family in my prayers.
