I’m a little late in posting this as his birthday was on Friday (remember, remember, the fifth of November) but I took a day off work to bake him a cake and have some cuddles.
We’ve noticed a few changes in the past year. He seems to get tired on his walks more easily and doesn’t want to go as far - although he still follows even the longest walks with some monster zoomies! He’s a having a bit more difficulty in hauling his big old bum off his bed, and he’s a bit clumsy, mostly in relation to him being very focused on what’s ten paces ahead, and not seeing right in front of him. We have a name for the cloudiness in his eyes that he’s had since we got him (nuclear sclerosis) but it’s not getting any worse and it doesn’t seem to be bothering him. Getting into the car is harder for him too.
But some things haven’t changed. He’s still my shadow. He’s still curious (nosey) about everything. He still creeps up behind me to inspect my cooking and baking skills, and to enjoy the spoils of my work. And he’s still the biggest, loveable cuddlebug I’ve ever met.
Here are some photos from his big day. Some of you follow him on Instagram and have already seen these so apologies for the repetition. I thought I would particularly like to share photos this year as so many houndies have gained their wings or given their owners lots of sleepless nights. It’s really driven home how precious every day with him is. Enjoy!
