  1. So sorry for you. My prayers for a safe passing for Mango.
  2. There are some people that will say that it is never safe to let them off leash. I think it is okay if you have good recall. I think you can use a squawker (sp?) to help with recall. Is there anywhere fenced you can take him to run?
  3. Our boy is naturally very skinny on his spine. It will always show. As Xtrawld said, go by the ribs. This is Jake at a healthy weight- spine still very prominent
  4. Maybe try plain yogurt for the gas? We've been using this for the past week or so and it has helped a lot.
  5. I know I've posted this before, but we had to hoist up our 80 lb guy into the truck for over a year. When my mom came to visit, she tried to lift him and must have got his boy parts... he jumped up rightawayquick! Now he's a pro, even with a full-size truck. I'm not recommending this, just a funny
  6. Just FYI, his butt may never grow hair even with a cushy retired life. Some of them just have bald butts. If it's really bald he could even win a "shiney hiney" contest Love the peanut butter on his whiskers- getting spoiled already!
  7. Our Jake is the same way and honestly we just don't take him around other dogs that aren't greyhounds. We're probably overly cautious.
  8. We haven't had to deal with separation anxiety, but I will say that reading the "Training and Behavior" and "Health and Medical" threads can make diseases and behavior issues seem more common because people are specifically going there for help. I haven't posted about SA because my boy stays home alone all day and is 100% okay with it (if we come home early he is still sleeping). My adoption coordinator seemed to think he would be good alone because he was only fostered with one other dog, not a whole pack. Also it should be better if you get two.
  9. He is already beautiful, but once you get him home and spoil him that coat will start to really shine!
  10. I wouldn't think you'd have much problem with the boys lifting their legs once the initial adjustment period is over, and they make belly bands for that. That being said, there is nothing wrong with getting two girls. I think it's more about personality than sex, especially when they're fixed. We have tile and Jake doesn't have a problem unless he's going really fast. I would be prepared to temporarily use rugs if they're uncomfortable at first. We have one guy only and both work all day, and I no longer feel much guilt because if we come home early you can tell we woke him up Again though, your plan sounds good too.
  11. Welcome! What part of the world are you from?
  12. Welcome! I had a duck named Gus, love that name! We called him Gus Gus like the mouse in Cinderella. I can't wait to see photos!
  13. Don't worry- every dog will get sick or hurt at some point. It sucks to see them in pain, but it sounds like you are doing everything you can and I'm sure she will be back to her normal self soon!
  14. Be careful- we just upgraded to a king bed, pretty much to accommodate the hound! Also- congrats- he is beautiful!!!
  15. I agree with Feisty- there's nothing wrong with crating, but I think most greyhounds, especially those out of the puppy phase, can be trusted to have run of the house. Also, Jake doesn't always spend the whole night in our room, but he always starts there and I can't imagine the uproar from him if we tried to keep him out! Good luck!
  16. Jake would like me to make sure I remind you that hero doggies always deserve a plain hamburger after donating He is usually very good, but lately he seems to not want to go in the back. Therefore, I think we're going to take a month off and see how it goes after that. Good luck!
  17. Jake still usually sleeps in the bedroom, but he will wander into other rooms sometimes. The big change is that he doesn't want to sleep in bed with us anymore. He will climb up with one of us or in the morning for some cuddles, but doesn't stay all night. It kind of makes me sad, but at the same time we probably all get better sleep now!
  18. He looks so sweet! I love Old Town Alexandria as well!
  19. Those ears are everything I was hoping they'd be My boy doesn't have dew claws either
  20. Awww, she sounds like a total sweetie! I need to see those ears!
  21. Check the back of the bag, but I don't think so. We went to that from a grain food and I think we kept it at 4 cups (big boy).
  22. Darn, I was hoping for some high greyhound videos (kidding)! This sounds intriguing though!
  23. I saw those the other day but didn't buy them- now we'll have to try it! To answer your question, I like Blue Dog Bakery's soft treats. I think they have molasses and peanut butter ones. Not too much $$ either.
