  1. What kind of antibiotic is he on? My vet uses Panacur as well, 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months. I would think the Drontal would be long gone by the time eggs hatch in his gut, hence the repeated dosings of Panacur.
  2. I know ticks are living creatures, but can anyone tell me if they have any good purpose anywhere? Duck food perhaps?
  3. What an awesome "tat" too bad she had to be in such pain & it wasn't her choice to get it! Hope someday you solve the mystery of the mysterious M. And if you do, let us all know, please.
  4. DesiRayMom (Kathy) Marysville, Ohio (central Ohio)
  5. Way to go Annie!!!! She's a beautiful girl, and she has a wonderful family for standing by her & helping her through such a traumatic time. Good on ALL of ya!!! Thanks for keeping us all updated. Kathy, Central Ohio
  6. Desi does the face rub thing on me when he's excited...when I come home from work, when we're getting ready to walk, etc. etc. I love it.
  7. Hopes & prayers for lovely Mittens. Some to you too, for strength.
  8. Sorry, while I was in the shower something occured to me.......I know I sang the praises of laser therapy (above), but I forgot to say that during training it was drilled into us to NEVER use the therapy laser where there may be a mass/tumor. It will/can stimulate the mass to grow faster. So, it your decision goes toward the therapy laser, make very very very very sure that there is nothing else going on. Ok, I'm done with my 2cents.
  9. We did a culture of Desi's worst toe, too. It came back staph (freaked me out....all I could think of was MERSA). But my vet also thought the staph was secondary to the immune issue. Whatever, we did a long course of Cephalexin & he's much better. It was so bad for a while that he wore a boy's sock on that foot most of the time to keep out dirt & to keep him from licking. In hindsight, I wonder if I was just keeping the ick IN. Even though I cleaned & used an all-natural calming spray twice a day. Hope Jazzie does well.
  10. The vet clinic where I work recommends Panacur treatment 3 days now, 3 days in 3 weeks, and another 3 days in 3 months. There are lots of ickies that don't show up on fecal float or smear...have to do a gram stain to catch them. I'm also a fan of the grain-free diet. My last boy (rip Gringo) had chronic soft stool (pudding plops) and the grain-free diet seemed to be the only thing that helped.
  11. If he doesn't have a case of burning butt....he's a very lucky boy. Good Luck.
  12. I work at a vet clinic in central Ohio. This story FWIW: One of our kennel folk has an OLD St.Bernard. (12) 100 lb. She has been increasingly stiff & gimpy over the past couple of years. Finally got to the point she wouldn't even get up. She managed (with lots of help) to get her into the clinic where we kept her in the treatment area for a week & did therapy laser on her daily. That was months ago (back in the spring). Now she's down to one therapy laser treatment every 2 weeks and although she's not "bouncy" she has no trouble getting up/down/walking/& can even do a couple of stairs. We were all totally amazed. Laura was VERY close to letting her "go" We also did daily therapy laser on a dog rescued from the Phillipines after a hurricane who had the most horrible knees...the rescue let him have a double patella stabilization BOTH KNEES AT ONCE. I had serious reservations & there were bets on how miserable this could be. He got therapy laser daily for one week after the surgery (That's been exactly one week ago yesterday) and you should see him now. It's hard to keep him down....take him out, he wants to jog. I was very skeptical of this treatment......but these two particular cases finally made a believer of me. Good luck with whatever you choose. My old boy gets on very well with Metacam (nsaid) once daily
  13. HI Dylan: I'm Kathy from central Ohio & I have an 8 yr hound with nail issues also. What you're describing sure sounds like SLO to me. www. greyhoundgang.org/medical-pemphigusSLO.php Check that site see what you think. My hound has never lost a nail, but he oozes yuck from the nail bed on 2 nails on one foot & 1 nail on another. I thought at first it was SLO & researched everything I could find & tried at least 3 trials of meds for 6 weeks each with little improvement. The only thing that helped at all was prednisone, which makes me believe that he has some kind of immune system issue. But the Pred made us both miserable. He had to pee at least every hour, lost weight rapidly & had night terrors (which he'd never had before & has not had since I took him off). From my understanding, this is a life long battle. If you find something that works, stick with it. I tried a novel protein (kangaroo) for several months, no improvement. I'm trying to get him on a grain-free diet now, but can't find anything he'll eat, so he's still on the kangaroo. Hope your protocol works & Jazzie's feet feel much better & stay better.
  14. I work at a vet clinic & one of our clients has a dog that came up hw+ several years ago. She's a real penny pincher....had never had him on HW prevention AT ALL, EVER. She refused tx, but did agree to finally put him on Heartguard & KEEP him on it. Theory is the Heartguard will kill all heartworm babies, the adults will eventually die on their own. FWIW....that dog is still alive & seems to be doing fine. I also think $1300 is way too much for heartworm treatment. I'd like to see that estimate to see exactly what's on it. Could it be pumped up with bloodwork, vaccines, overnight stay, etc. etc?
  15. Good thoughts & prayers for a sucessful surgery, clean margins, & a good prognosis on the histopath report.
  16. My sympathy..........I'm gagging just thinking about it!
  17. Waiting for another update.....Hope eveything continues to get better & whatever was upsetting his stomach is now OUT...
  18. Keep us posted......good thoughts your way for clear x-rays.
  19. Sending good thoughts your way. Hope she's feeling better & whoopin those dreaded hooks; horrible nasty critters.
  20. Yay Joe!!! Been thinkiing about you both. The sorrow of a hospitalized stuffie is more than worth the joy it gave Joe to hospitalize it.
  21. Many hopes & prayers for you & Duke. If these are the last times, make them the best times.
  22. My vet has always recommended not ordering anything medical over the www. "You just never know where it comes from or where it's been, or how long it's been there" Now I'm sure I never will. Scary.
  23. Mom always knows....good or bad. Sometimes it sucks, but I'm sure none of us would change a thing.
  24. I just (last month) switched my old boy from Rimadyl to Metacam.....with some Tramadol thrown in now & again when he needs it. Drug rep (I work at a vet clinic) gave me a free bottle (it's a liquid, once daily) to try, & it really did seem to work better. Pretty pricey though. FWIW, Metacam is also a human drug & can be gotten from a pharmacy (with prescription) much cheaper. Don't know if that works as well as the vet product though. Will be trying that when my "free" stuff runs out.
