  1. I agree. ZD is ok, but I'm a firm believer in grain free.
  2. Acepromazine never worked for my carsick boy. Drammamine did. After he had a couple of months of rides without puking, he decided it wasn't so bad & haven't had to use it since.
  3. FWIT: I've seen ear infections that seem to be instigated by food allergy. What is he eating? I'm a firm believer in grain-free.
  4. FWIW: DesiRay just went through a spell of nasty diarrhea & even nastier gas. On the way to the vet, I threatened to make him run alongside, it was so bad. Anyway, when your guy had his physical, he probably had a fecal; did they do a gram stain? That's how we found DesiRay's problem, clostridium...first symptons, diarrhea & VERY stinky gas. Good Luck....
  5. Sending prayers & anxiously awaiting an update
  6. How is she this morning? How was your night? Or did it wait until today to come out smoothly? Hope all is well!!!
  7. Are the boys ever crated? Will you have a crate for her? Since she's been crated a lot, maybe she'll feel safer in a crate...even with the door open, so she can come out when she's not feeling so overwhelmed. If I were a smaller girl, I'm afraid I might be overwhelmed by 3 big boys. I'll be interested to hear what other ideas come up. Good Luck....Hope all goes well.
  8. We slept all night....yea! Still spewing this morning, but this evening much improved, thank goodness. I'm going to try the probiotics for a while & see what happens. Thanks all. Kathy
  9. Here's another agreement with everyone else. I've had DesiRay for 6 months, and it's just been the past month or so that I feel like HE feels like he really belongs to me. Before, it was just exactly like he was waiting to see where he would be taken next. He's finally excited to see me....he just did his first butt-tuck zoomie 2 weeks ago. Please be patient & just love him as he is......and as he will be.
  10. My thought is that I would want to know what was causing the dermatitis before I started using anything. I'd be paranoid that whatever I chose might make it worse.
  11. Finally home from work.......Clostridium....why am I not surprised. My last grey had problems with stomach & bowels, always clostridium. My beagle/lab mix never, ever, ever, has problems with soft stool, & he sticks his nose in the same places Desi does. His fecals never show any overgrowth of clostridium, either. He's just one of those super-healthy mutts. Are greys just more sensitive to this particular bacteria? Any thoughts? Brought home Flagyl & a couple of Lomotil to stop him up some so I could get some sleep tonight, hopefully. Think I'm also going to put him on a probiotic & leave him on it forever. Maybe that will help thwart the dreaded bug.
  12. I'm just the opposite....if there is something wrong, & there's a pill for it,.,,,GIVE IT TO ME. The Rimadyl will certainly help with the inflammation, not just pain. But that's your decision. You know your hound better than we do. If he doesn't tolerate it well, that's a concern. I personally use Metacam for Desi. It's another anti-inflammatory. He has pain in his front feet, and the Metacam makes a world of difference in the way he walks. Good luck, I hope the antibiotic kick it out quickly.
  13. Have been up all night. Last evening on big walk, Desi had firm, then soft stool. Didn't think too much of it, it happens sometimes. Out for quickie pee before bed. Nothing unusual. Every 2 hours, I'd get a bark in my ear. This from a grey who really doesn't "say" much ever. So when he barks at me, I know it's serious. EVERY TWO HOURS, out for spurts of liquidy choc "pudding." He hasn't gotten into anything (or have seen no evidence of such) diet has not changed...... I work at a vet hospital, so will take him to work with me this morning (if this pot of coffee kicks in pretty soon). Complete fecal first...see where it goes from there. Wish me luck. This is going to be one bummer of a day. Kathy
  14. I'd get up another half hour earlier, do a good walk early.....quick (even 15 min) walk at lunch, and another good walk in the evening. Same old yard.....boring, boring, boring. If you do PT in the morning, could you cut off a little of the workout in the evening? I know army guys have to stay really fit....,but you also have a responsibility for those furkids.
  15. My first thought would have been an abcessed tooth, since you say his teeth are horrible, but I guess the vet would have checked that and I would think that he would't be lurking for treats if it was a tooth. Hope it's something easily fixable. Prayers for the painful boy & stength for you.
  16. I have a t-shirt that says...."I can fix ANYTHING.....hand me the duct tape."
  17. I used Collasate ointment (from vet) on a leg wound. It's healing beautifully, but I know it's hard to keep them from licking or chewing off bandages. Vet wrap kept slipping off....I finally wound up using one of my socks (wound too high up for a toddler sock) & taped it on with medical tape. Amazingly, he left it alone. Good luck.
  18. I had a shepherd mix a few years back that was allergic to EVERYTHING green, and 2 kinds of dust mites. (yes, I did the allergy testing). Tried the shots too, for 2 years, with very minimal sucess. What seemed to help him most was Chlorpheneramine 4 mg 3 times a day, and wiping him down with a wet towel when he came in, to get the pollen & such off of him (at least some of it)..... that, by the way, was suggested by a vet at the allergy lab. Allergies can make them absolutely miserable....hope the Zyrtec helps.
  19. I only tried to get DesiRay to "sit" once & he looked so pitiful & uncomfortable, I never did it again. His sire was "Flying Train" and that's exactly what he looks like....a train. Tiny little head, 85lb of muscle coming behind....He's sooooooo looooong. Now when we're outside walking, crossing the street, meeting neighbors, etc. I use "by me" & he velcros himself to my leg. Works for us.
  20. What a bummer that "happy" tail can cause such grief. Good thoughts coming your way.
