  1. Confusing, isn't it? I am certainly NOT the person to give you any advice. I just want you to know you are not alone. I had a shepherd mix about 10 years ago, lived with me & 2 other dogs, was a wonderful loving boy to us all. But take him for a walk, and he became the "enforcer" of the pack. It was like he wanted nobody or nothing to come near any of us. He did fine with visitors, and at the vets, it was just the walk. I tell you, I tried everything, and I never did get that under control. He got better as he aged, but it never stopped. I wish you greyt luck.
  2. I agree. Having a dental and a hernia repair means she'll be under anes. longer. Neither of my hounds wake up well.....no matter what meds we've used, it takes a long time to "wake up" to be alert & not "staggery". She may have to wear an E-collar for the sutures in the hernia repair. But I truly would not try to get her up stairs that same evening. She'll certainly try for you, but the effort may be too much for those sutures.
  3. Let us know how the Listerine spray works......I'm interested.
  4. I'm so sorry. This sux. Praying for a peaceful crossing.
  5. My vet recommends every 12 hours, keeping some of the drug in system all the time, instead of the high/low that once a day gives.
  6. Finally got to talk to our "lab lady" today at work, and even asked one of our vets.....they said that fat globules in poo can simply mean the the dog has fairly recently eaten a fatty meal, or treat, or human food. Or, it could be a pancreatic issue, where the body is not breaking down the fat like it should. Not much help, I'm afraid, but best I could come up with. What kind of food is he eating? The soft serve poo could just be from food change. I personally don't think 3 weeks is very long to adjust to a new home, new food, etc. etc. Hope you get it all resolved.
  7. Thank goodness things are looking up. Greyt to hear! Thanks for the update.
  8. Now here's another curious thing. I'm a middle aged woman, and in all my years of dog loving, I've only owned one female. She lived to 14 & was a wonderful girl, and I loved her dearly, but every other dog in my life has been male. Why is that I wonder? I sometimes wonder if I'm drawn to the boys because I think they need taken care of more. Curious, no?
  9. Canines are bad because their roots are so long & hard to get out. IMHO, he'll be fine losing the teeth, I'd just made certain sure that the dental specialist knows what he's doing with greyhound anesthesia. That worries me more than losing the teeth.
  10. I still say my best guess is a lower back issue. If something is pinching a nerve back there causing tingles, he could think it was a fly pestering him. I'd slow down some, too, if it were I.
  11. I work at a vet hospital and have never heard one of our vets mention "fat globules" in poo. Just left a message with our lab tech.....if she calls me back this evening, I'll post her input.
  12. Many prayers for Manny......strength for you.
  13. This whole thread has just cracked me up. I think now I'm grateful that I've got a couple of lazy boys who just raise their heads when they hear me moving around.....nothing interesting? Fine, back to lala land. Except, of course, when the refrigerator door opens, or the car keys jingle, or the treat cupboard opens........
  14. I don't think I would be using that vet clinic again. I work at a vet hospital & sending a patient home in that condition is a MAJOR no-no.
  15. Good to hear things looking better!!!
  16. DesiRay has been slow to recover from anes every time. Like you say, just not "with it." He always has loose stool for a couple of days, as well. Don't worry too much. Sounds like everything will be ok, just give him a little more time to get all the anes drugs out of his system. Good thoughts!!!
  17. Infected blackheads? Never heard of such a thing. The total tonage of things I learn in this forum is staggering. Whatever it is, it really looks ouchie to me.
  18. I've had one female (non-grey) in my life that marked worse than any of the males. Every yard, begining & end of each block, before & after each driveway, etc.etc.etc. By the time we got back to the house, she was dry as a bone. I also worried about a UTI, but she was good as gold in the house, even for 9 hours while I was gone at work.
  19. RedTigerJazz............wondering how the feet are doing. Did the epsom salts soak help? That is something I never thought of (don't know why, sounds perfectly logical). I figure DesiRay's toes will "flare up" again sometime in the future, and I will try that, too, if you think it helped your kids.
  20. Well, I've cried my way all through Casey's story, but it sounds like it will have a happy ending. Hurray!!!!!! My vote goes to You-all for Parents of the Year Award. Did anyone every have an adequate explanation for what happened to his hip? Now that he's home & doing better, maybe you can get a little more pushy with the hospital about what happened. Accidents happen, but a hip dislocation after neck surgery is just too much. Many prayers for Casey's continued improvement.
