  1. I'd be more concerned about pitting in the concrete with actual salt
  2. We lived in midtown Manhattan with our first grey for 4+ years, in a 600 square foot apartment. Never bothered with dog parks because she didn't care about them. Perfect apartment dog We're in CT now, with 2 greys and a toddler - our first grey has adapted just fine to this, too. We didn't have a home visit, but the rest was what our group does as well.
  3. Ok, so I just did my first claim. $620 visit to the e-vet. $250 was the deductible for the year, $150 not covered (cost of the exam) so I'm getting a check back for $171. OK, better than nothing. 6 months @ $47 + $250 + $150 = a little more than the e-vet bill total but considering how much higher the e-vet bill could have been, I'll stick with insurance for this guy. I will try and submit the claims for his allergy prescription, too - we'll see what happens. And, by the way - he was at the e-vet Friday. On Monday I emailed the vet records from both his regular vet and the e-vet. This morning the claim was processed. Talk about fast!
  4. I have Kirby with Healthy Paws and I'm about to submit my first claim. Before I could they need all of his records (understandable). So, will do that then see. I do like the app.
  5. Kristie, love this and will use it, thanks. My dogs do not steal food from counters or normal height tables. They don't take it from nose-level unless we have left them alone with it, and Bella never used to - we are working on teaching the newbie and giving Bella a little re-training. They almost never take it from my son, but frankly, if he stays in his seat, then there is no danger of them taking it so it's becoming somewhat effective in teaching him, too.
  6. Yep. We have 2 greys and a toddler. Our first Grey has been trained to leave food alone if it's on the coffee table, but she has regressed some with new boy arriving. He will now leave things on the coffee table alone. For both of them, this only applies if there is someone in the room with them - if they are alone for one second, the food is gone. They are pretty good about not snatching food from my son's hand if he's walking around but we are also trying to teach him the if he walks around with noms, they are likely to be eaten since they are right at nose level.

  8. Not to totally hijack this thread, but would love your thoughts on why that is. I wish I knew what Kirby had eaten at the track as he seems to be allergic to everything except chicken.
  9. Bella = 11.5 years old. We have had her since she was 5. No serious issues, just yearly vet visits and basic shots. She is on Deramaxx now to relive any discomfort due to arthritis and such, and still does zoomies almost daily, as well as bounds up and down stairs and onto furniture. Only unexpected vet visit was because she sliced open her paw doing said zoomies Kirby = 4 years old, we've had him 5 months. He's been a little more challenging as it took us a while to realize that he has allergies, so we're trying to figure out exactly what he is allergic to. He's been on Apoquel for a few weeks while we try and determine whether it's food, seasonal or environmental allergies.
  10. Oh, Ducky, I'm so sorry. I hated seeing his name in this thread Many hugs to you.
  11. Yay!! We've been having our first experience with Apoquel as well and it works beautifully without the side effects of steroids. Really happy that Skye is so much better.
  12. Yes - we went through this with our new boy http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php/topic/318755-how-many-did-you-try-update-post-21/ Our older girl has done just fine on anything she's been fed so we got a little spoiled Iams green bag is working terrifically for the new boy. As much as I wanted to stay with what we were doing (Acana, which is all regionally sourced and made in Canada), Iams works so we're going to that.
  13. Just bumping this thread as I recently re-upped my donation. I like that there are a few features tied to donation - it's a greyt reminder that I need to get 'er done when all of a sudden something isn't working for me
  14. I have too many collars I sent you a PM anyway
  15. Yep - she now thinks this is her space so until she learns that it's NOT, she shouldn't get furniture privileges
  16. I'm so very sorry. You gave him such a great life and then gave him the greatest gift of a dignified passing versus hanging onto him for your sake. There is nothing I can say that will make this easier. I wish I could give you a hug.
  17. Another vote for Springtime. I'm actually about to try their Spirulina to see if that helps with Kirby's allergies (which don't seem to be food related as we've tried him on a few different protein sources, grain free, various grains, etc). Wot? I received a letter but only $150 In all seriousness, I was blown away to receive a letter and an unsolicited credit.
  18. So we flipped Kirby to the Iams green bag (proactive health) last night and wow, what an immediate difference, for the better. Not 100% perfect but much better. I typically do a gradual transition but figured he couldn't get much worse if I just switched - in part because my vet had us do that a few weeks back - so I did and he was better. Good this morning even on his 2nd poo. Fingers crossed. This was our 5th food My goal was to get him on something that would firm him up without a lot of additives, and save olewo etc for when they have minor stomach bugs or occasional issues.
  19. Well, the cuts heal well, then he scratches once and opens them back up. Not sure how we cure that.
  20. Unfortunately raw is not really an option for us as we have limited space to store the meat and no place to contain both hounds where they could eat and not matter if they made a mess.
  21. Laura - yes.... With Bella, we've had it great. Some gas issues here and there but basically she's been perfectly fine on whatever she's been on. Kirby is a whole other beast. First few weeks we attributed to new home stress, deworming, etc etc etc. Then vet gave us a small bag of Hills W/D for the extra fiber. That helped but the volume of food needed/poos produced was outrageous. Tried Kirkland weight management - somewhat better on both but not great. Kirkland weight management mixed with the Kirkland variety Bella is eating - softer poos. Just the Kirkland salmon that Bella is eating- very soft. Add olewo carrots - pretty good, but would rather find a food that works versus add-ins every day - save the add-ins for occasional tummy upsets. Kirkland turkey - no improvement, maybe even slightly worse but not sure how long to give it a chance (it's only been a week into the transition). Will give that a few more days and then pick up a green bag. I don't really care what he eats as long as he's feeling good and pooping well. At least now he's not as incredibly skinny as he was - he is a big solid boy.
