  2. Update: the Kirkland (Costco) weight management food is working really well for Kirby. Now just to put a few pounds on him and he will be good.
  3. To answer the last part first - yes. Flagyl, chicken and rice, tested for worms several times. We can add manually, was hoping to find a simple solution but we already do joint supplements so adding another shouldn't be difficult.
  4. We have an amazing person who cares for ours dogs when we are away - she works in our vets office. Long story short, we have been battling soft to liquid poos from Kirby since we brought him home. Feeding Kirkland salmon but when we were away this weekend, vet suggested Hill's W)D digestive/weight/glucose management. Fiber is 20%, protein 15% (compared to 3% fiber, 24% protein from the Kirkland). I will of course talk to the vet but are there other high fiber, lower fat/protein foods that are not $70 for a 27.5 pound bag? Thanks!
  5. I meant to add that we had tried all sorts of things with our girl and after years with a bald butt (thighs), within weeks of putting her on Springtime Fresh Factors, her butt is fuzzy.
  6. Ditto Same dose by weight for 64lb Bella and 78lb Kirby. I do split it into two and give the 2 pieces 24+ hours apart with meals but Bella's had no reaction and has been on it over a year.
  7. Welcome! We have had our first grey for 6 years and still crate her at night (in our bedroom) because otherwise she jumps on our bed at stupid early hours. Totally our fault for letting her on the bed. She likes her crate, can be found in it frequently during the day. Our new boy, Kirby (he's been home 4 weeks) doesn't much care for his crate. He now is on a bed in our room at night and is terrific. He does wear a belly band during the day because he does still mark in the house but otherwise I see no need to crate him especially when it makes him so unhappy.
  8. Hi! We lived in Midtown for a few years and had good experiences with Westside Animal Hospital on W 46th and 9th.
  9. Side note - we adopted a boy right from the track 3 weeks ago. On our third car trip (along with our other grey in the car), he pooped in the car. Realizing that had only been his third trip, the first two resulting in a new home and a trip to the vet (ouch!) motivated us to go on some fun trips with lots of treats. That resulted in the picture below, taken the other day as he was in the backyard as I was unloading the car.... Every time the garage door is open, he's hanging out by the car because he wants to go with us. Talk about extremes
  10. We were using Get up and Go as well and unfortunately it did not work as well for us. I was really bummed because I really, really loved being able to support the hounds and loved the quick responses and tons of helpful info but we just weren't seeing that it was helping Bella all that much. I'm so glad it's working for your Lucy!!
  11. We have switched to Springtime and have seen a big difference. Other people who know Bella have, too. I know you were looking for ideas other than Springtime, sorry
  12. We lived in Manhattan when we first got Bella and also wanted to make sure she could go down those scary, open painted concrete stairs if necessary. We would teach her on short sequences that we'd come across on our walks - every walk, every day. And not letting her just jump on and off. Once she figured how to go down a few, we started with a flight of carpeted stairs. Then one flight of the emergency stairs, then two. Starting with just a few steps is much less scary. Somewhere I had heard that greys don't necessarily have great depth perception - if that's true, then a flight of stairs would definitely be more scary.
  13. Update - in the 6 years that we have had Bella, she has had a bald butt. After less than 6 weeks on Fresh Factors, she has a fully fuzzed butt. Our new boy came to us with raw, red, scabby patches on his chest and thighs - completely cleared up in under 2 weeks.
  14. Kibble is roughly dime sized and pretty flat. We're using the salmon one, going on the third week now, and so far so good. Can't speak to chicken content though.
  15. Hi - I'm so sorry for your troubles. In the time it took me to type a response, better responses were posted. Wholeheartedly agree with Meredith's post, she gave some excellent feedback and advice. If you don't feel that you can work with him, then yes, you and your husband need to talk and talk to your group. Try not to let it get to a "me or the dog" point. Best of luck - keep us posted.
  16. Same here, also in CT and our 2 (an 11 y.o. girl and 4 y.o. boy) have been dragging on walks the last few days and panting tons.
  17. Thanks! He's doing much better today - was moving beautifully at our lunchtime walk.
  18. He last raced 3/5, was neutered/dental 3/7. Our group told me to just let him rest and relax a bit, take him to the vet in a couple of weeks for a well check and parasite recheck. Pam, always good advice
  19. Feeling silly about posting this now that I know about the length of time he was on the hauler Totally trust my group that they would tell me anything they knew about his history, I just didn't think about the length of time on the hauler
  20. Thanks Dick. I didn't realize until this morning that he was on a hauler for about 24 hours from Friday am to Saturday am - didn't realize he was on for that long, and that could definitely make him sore and tired. This is only our second grey so just didn't even consider the length of time he would have been traveling
