How wonderful for Freya to have such a loving family and so much joy her last months. The best gift you could have given her.

Sending sympathy on the loss of your Trinkett.
I've never had a shy or spooky dog, but I love having two at a time. Watching the different personalities and interactions makes everything more fun. Even when they're not closely bonded, I think they really enjoy having another dog around.
The only "one-at-a-time" problem I've experienced is when I've been working obedience with them and have to shut one of them away at a time. But that was only for 10-15 minutes per dog.

Don't worry about chipping unless you really want to. to you and Thorulf.
My Scout's nails never bled much, but he didn't want me to touch them when they were separating. It would usually take 2-3 days from when I first started noticing a problem. I never even thought of trying to cut the nails or bandage the foot; if I had we would have been talking 2-person-and-a-muzzle job. Quik-Stop is also painful. Just brainstorming -- what about a Therapaw or similar dog boot?
