  1. What a comfort it must be for her to have you next to her.
  2. Nutmeg went through a period last year of higher creatinine (got up to 2.1), normal but rising BUN, and low gravity (forget exact number). Numbers weren't that bad, but concerning. Vet suggested her partial raw diet might have contributed , which she'd been on for years without affecting her kidney values. Put her on a kidney kibble (which she let me know was WAY too low protein for her) for about six weeks, supplemented by home-fixed kidney diet. Laid off all raw meat. Values all changed to closer to the middle of the normal range, and she's back to her regular diet. Perplexing, but hoping for something similarly short-run for Frank.
  3. Sending pain-free thoughts to her. How frustrating!
  4. I think this means an extra round of cookies.
  5. Baz did it so much that I could have rented him out as a lawn de-thatcher.
  6. Sending cyberhugs to both of your boys.
  7. Sending thoughts of healing light for your beautiful girl.
  8. Adding all of our best wishes and cyberhugs. Nutmeg, who just had some small, hard, benign lumps removed, says to tell Paul to hang in there.
  9. Will be thinking good thoughts for your Fab 4 boy.
  10. Adding our warmest good thoughts to the list
  11. Welcome to you and Dyna! Since it is about 6 months since she started on thyroid medication, if you haven't already, it would be a good idea to have her thyroid levels checked anyway. Don't worry about being paranoid, it's pretty standard for seeing if her dose needs adjusting.
  12. I hope it's something as simple as changing food (sigh). You asked for fish kibble suggestions: one is Taste of the Wild fish. It's also grain-free. Tell Q that all he has to give you for Christmas is his good appetite.
  13. Nutmeg had two suspicious lumps removed yesterday from her right shoulder. We have paws crossed waiting for the test results. I am so glad that the osteo threads have kept me reminded of bad drug reactions. I knew they were going to give her a painkiller afterwards, but I thought it would be pills that I could give if needed. Nope, a shot of synthetic opioid (buprenorphine) before I picked her up. The vet didn't want to give her an NSAID because of a kidney scare earlier this year, but this is sure off her list now, too. She was panting a little in the car on the way home and then went into full reaction mode. Panting, pacing, and whining nonstop. Rear legs threatening to collapse at every minute, but only sank down for short exhausted "rests" 3x between 5 p.m. last night and 8:30 this morning. The info on buprenorphine online says it is supposed to last only 8 hrs. Ha! Baby girl ate some delicate morsels for late breakfast and is resting relatively comfortably now. Nutmeg in perkier times, modeling her 4-legged jammies:
  14. I've been thinking about a treadmill, too. Why wouldn't a manual one work? Alternative exercises/games for winter: hurdles -- set up short, soft-impact hurdles (I used paper grocery sacks filled with newspapers for recycling, turned on their sides) and position yourself, with reward, on one end of the course. This works best with two folks, one on each end, but you can also work on teaching your dog to stay until called. Great if you have a long hallway. hide and go seek. Hide yourself, with reward. Call. Rinse, lather, repeat. Be ready to laugh as your dog goes charging past your hiding place 2-3 times because you're not in plain sight. Also good for teaching dog to stay.
  15. Such good news! I'm sure your friend is as happy for you as you are sorry for him.
  16. Eating!!!! We're sending delicious cybercookies to your sweet baby.
  17. How did Hurley Boy do today while you were at work? Sending all sorts of good thoughts.
