  1. That is crazy. Don't give up hope, there are plenty of other groups that will adopt to you. Most people do work full time, that is life. As long as you are committed to your dog and have help when you are not at home, there is no reason you should not be able to adopt a grey. Not all would be the right fit, but there is a dog out there for you. My only thoughts on your living situation would be the elevator, some dogs are fine with it, but my Razzy is terrified of them. They are also wonderful first time dogs for some people. I adopted my first 15 years ago and my life has never been the same since. 5 dogs later, many many greyhound friends and experiences, I wouldn't change it for the world. Good luck!!
  2. I also agree with the Freedom No Pull Harness from 2Hounds - and they also have many beautiful satin limed martingales and velvet tag collars too.

    Ups

So sorry to hear about UPS Carol. I'm sure she will be frolicking around with her brother now though UPS was always welcome on our Greyhound Adventures, we all know a thing or two about snarky dogs Thinking of you guys
  4. Just to clarify, IBS is Irritable Bowel Syndrome, IBD is Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and more serious. I'm guessing your dog has IBD. Our Ducky had IBD & PLE, we did not do the scope to biopsy though. We kept him on a strict diet, and he had vit B12 shots, I think we eventually put him on prednisone, but it also caused a ton of weight loss and pee accidents. He did develop fluid around the lungs and unfortunately deteriorated. There are some support groups on facebook, etc.
  5. Whoops, I think it was full! Looking forward to it and need to finish packing today! Can't wait to see everyone and all the hounds of course
  6. I'm at the Quality Inn too - hope to see you there!
  7. Petzlife Gel has worked wonders on my dog's teeth. It is pricey but worth it in my opinion! Instead of a toothbrush, I put it on a dental pad and rub the teeth and gums.
  8. Razzy eats rabbit poop all the time and we haven't had any problems. I do know worms are a potential, so I try to discourage it though. This sounds a little nuts, but I get out there and try to pick up as much as I can, pellet by pellet....
  9. I'll be there Wednesday - Sunday, at the Quality Inn. I'm bummed we can't all stay at the Eisenhower, but looking forward to it and hoping for great weather!!
  10. She looks wonderful! Here's hoping her treatment is successful <3
  11. It would be a greyt fundraiser for a greyhound group!
  12. Razzy has the same problem, and we think it may have been from wearing a velvet tag collar for many years. We have switched to a leather tag collar and I rub coconut oil on her bald spot and both have seemed to help.
  13. You could try the European style muzzle, it is shaped a little differently and the plastic is thinner. I ordered mine from someone in Canada, but having trouble remembering the website. For now you can view some options here: http://www.muzzlesforgreyhounds.com/index.html
  14. Looking for creative ways to keep my girl's bandage dry - it's going to rain here for the next few days. She cut her leg running and has some sutures and even though we are not going out much, I'm supposed to keep it dry until at least Monday when she goes back to the vet for a re-check. Any ideas? 15. Ouch that looks raw! I would definitely try to keep it clean when going outside with a sock or bootie. Razzy has torn pads a lot and they do eventually heal, just takes a long time for that skin to re-grow. I also do let her lick it a little, I believe for something minor they can sometimes heal themselves.
  16. Also, as you can see from everyone's experiences, they are all different. Some dogs don't live a day past diagnosis, some live years. It is an awful disease that plagues our beautiful greyhounds, and we can only learn from each other and support each other. Ultimately it is your decision, and I really do believe that the dogs let you know when they are okay to let go - love her every minute.
  17. My Wylie had osteo and Pamindronate infusions (similar to Zoledronate). I believe he had four or five treatments, approximately 3 - 4 weeks apart. It helped with his pain (also on rimadyl, tramadol & and eventually gabapentin), and on x-rays, the vet saw the bone actually calcifying. Wylie was only the second dog they had treated this way in their practice and the vet was very happy with the results. He was 11 yrs old and had 6 really good months with us post-diagnosis. After a while the pain/limping came back and I decided not to put him through more treatments (he got stressed going to the vet). You are right it does not cure the cancer or shrink the tumor, but it can help with pain (I have read studies that 1 in 4 show pain relief) and it can strengthen the bone around the tumor, minimizing risk of a break which was my biggest fear during that time.
  18. That is greyt news! If Zoledronate is the same as Pamidronate (which I think it is), my Wylie had infusions of it every 3 to 4 weeks and it really helped. Not only did it manage his pain, but on x-rays, you could see the bone actually calcifying! Every day, week, month was a blessing and we got many of them with Wylie and he was comfortable for a long time
  19. The Freedom No-Pull Harness from 2Hounds is my favorite! http://www.2houndsdesign.com/Freedom-No-Pull-Harness/ It has velvet under the arms and clips to the front or top or both. You should also keep a tag collar on her all the time with ID. My girl's neck is bald too and I recently switched to a leather tag collar from Long Dog Leather Works which I think has helped, and I rub a little coconut oil on the bald spot.
  20. If you can find another greyhound home to keep him at, that sounds like the best case scenario. You can check with your adoption group, there is also a facebook group called Greyhound Sitters Exchange https://www.facebook.com/groups/362259110628359/ While the vet may be nice and clean, 17 days is a long time to board at a vet. I would absolutely not take a greyhound overseas with you unless for a move or an emergency. They will be much safer/happier in a greyhound friendly/knowledgeable home.
  21. I see most people have said their dogs are fine for 8 - 10 hours home alone. I would like to contradict that with not all dogs would be able to hold it that long. I have been lucky to have jobs where I can come home at lunch to let them out. But if I had to leave my dog home alone more than 6-7 hours, I would hire a pet-sitter. That being said - a pet-sitter/dog-walker should have greyhound experience, and be well educated on safety and keeping your greyhound from getting loose at all costs.
  22. Freedom No Pull Harness http://www.2houndsdesign.com/1-Freedom-No-Pull-Harness-Medium-and-Large-Breeds.html - they are the best. Just make sure it is properly tightened, dogs can still back out a harness. If she is a super spook, Majestic Collars makes a spook harness with an added waist band http://www.majesticcollars.com/harness.htm.
