  1. The symptoms you described in your first post remind me a lot of episodes my Quiet Man used to have. We never got a concrete diagnosis, but many described it as what happened when their dogs came out of a seizure. As far as the food, I continue to feed TOTW with no issues. They never actually tested positive for salmonella, they only voluntarily recalled as a precaution.
  2. Gooberlicious by Bil-Jac, soft, stinky peanut butter treats!
  3. I have this: http://usak9outfitters.com/CCSS.htm
  4. I buy mine from Petflow.com. You can get good deals and free delivery.
  5. I was fortunate to let Murphy go at home of "old age". My previous vet came to the house and he was wonderful. It was the most peaceful way for him to go. Christina I have his info if you want it.
  6. I believe this is the same one I used several years ago with Quiet Man. I don't remember the name of the actual Behaviorist we saw, but she was very good and we had both in-home and office visits, along with follow up phone call consultations.
  7. Welcome to GT! I love Whippets! You will find a lot of knowledge and experience on here. One bit of caution...if you think you want a petite female, you will probably wind up with a huge male, ha ha ha. Good luck! p.s. love your products!
  8. My two are on TOTW Pacific Stream. I have not taken them off since the recall because they have been fine, but had started mixing in another food "just in case". I am mixing in Pro Plan Salmon for sensitive skin & stomachs. They are transitioning very well, and it is a little bit less expensive than TOTW. I still haven't decided if we are doing a full switch over, but I am happy with it if we do.
  9. We feed TOTW Pacific Stream. I'm not sure if my bags were part of the recall since I throw the bags away, but none of us have gotten sick, dogs & humans, so I have continued to feed it. I was a bit worried at first and bought a small bag of Pro Plan salmon to start mixing in and they've done well. I feel like it's gotten a little out of hand and do not have any problem going back to TOTW. I just really hope that everyone knows switching foods so abruptly will cause stomach upset that opens a whole other can of worms in the dog world!
  10. I have two open bags that my dogs have been eating and no one has gotten sick. I do nit know the dates since I put the food in containers and throw the bags away. I don't know what to do.
  11. She is only 3, and overall very healthy. I think it would be hard to measure her water intake since I have two dogs, but I could try. Her pee is almost always very dilute, so that concerns me as well. I'm also not sure if trying to break her from her crate would help or not; she has other reasons she needs to be crated, but doesn't seem to mind the crate. I guess a lot of this is trial and error. I think I will try another food before the ultrasound. Now, what to try? There are so many options! And forgot to add, she does get cranberry pills, I recently upped it from 1 to 2 per day.
  12. Raspberry had been having full blown pee accidents in her crate on & off for several months. We have been to the vet on three different occasions for bloddwork, urinalysis & two urine cultures. All resuts have come up negative/normal. The nest step according the vet would be an ultrasoucnd to look at her organs more closely for any obvious causes. Before doing that, we are trying to figure out if it could be behavioral, or perhaps related to food issues, or anything else? She drinks a ton of water, but we also cannot figure out if this is behaviorial or physical. She has water in her crate, but never drinks it, she likes to empty the bowls of water that are out in the house whenever she gets a chance. Part of the reason I think it may be behavioral is we have a second dog now and I wonder if she thinks he's going to drink all the water. Someone also suggested switching foods, that hers may be to rich (Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream), but she also has a sensitive tummy & it works well for her poops. Any thoughts, suggestions? Or should we just got for the ultrasound?
  13. I haven't read through all of the responses, but in regards to him growling on the couch: a lot of greyhounds have some type of space aggression. They are not used to sharing their space or being disturbed when laying down. Some will grow out of it, some can be corrected with training, and some, like my first boy, will never be able to be 100% trusted. He was not cuddly at all, and even after 7 years, would still occasionally growl at anyone trying to hug, cuddle, or get too close with him while lying down. I had to live with it, and monitor it, and he was not allowed on the human couches or beds. Until your new boy gets more comfortable, I would not allow him on the couch, and make sure he has a "safe place" like a crate or dog bed in a corner where he will not be disturbed. Oh, and the laying around, most will sleep 18 - 20 hours per day
  14. Good news Jordan! Whatever works is what's best for him. Hoping for many more months of success!
  15. My dogs always wear a seat belt, or tether & harness. I have bought from here and here They can stand up or lay down, and I like that when I open the door they can't jump out.
  16. My vet at Tufts also did not want to go the Budesonide route without first trying the pred. Unfortunately Ducky did not live long enough for us to try I feel like it is one of those things that no matter how smart/seasoned the vet is, they are not always willing to try new things. Angell & Tufts are the best in the area, yet some vets stick to very traditional medicine only. My suggestion would be to perhaps print out this thread to show him/her what so many other gh owners have experienced with Budesonide. Sending many good thoughts to you & Harley.
  17. Ducky was on z/d & d/d venison with some success, along with a lot of the same meds Harley is on. He also lost a lot of weight when he was in ICU at Tufts, and gained some back, but never went back to his "normal" weight. Hugs to all of you, it is such a horrible disease. If you are on Facebook, you may also want to check out this page: Canine Intestinal Lymphangiectasia
  18. The support forum does also have a Facebook Page: Canine lymphangiectasia support I found the forum very helpful when we were going through IBD & PLE with Ducky. As far as the fluid, I would get it drained. Ducky developed fluid around his lungs and the awful cough he had from it caused aspiration pneumonia. Managing their diet is critical along with the meds. It's a terrible disease, good luck!
  19. I used Tri-Heart Plus for several years with no problems. It is just a generic version of Heartgard Plus.
  20. I used to give raw marrow bones to my first dog who loved them, but he did get a slab fracture form one and needed a dental anyway. I brush with Petzlife gel and have had good results. Also, if I do give a rawhide I only give for about 10 minutes & monitor the whole time. I bought deer antlers, but the dogs seem t lose interest in them pretty quickly and they're very expensive.
  21. One thing I would mention, is some greyhounds never outgrow it. It can be monitored, but never completely "cured" with some dogs. My first boy Quiet Man was never 100% trustworthy sharing space with hounds or humans. He definitely got better over the years, but he was never a dog a I could cuddle with, leave alone with children, etc. There was only one other greyhound that came along which was my next boy Murphy who I could trust him around alone. That was just who he was, and I learned to live with it and manage it.
  22. Pat, Razzy has been on Fresh Digest for quite some time with greyt results. You can buy it at Petco. Link
  23. Razzy licks a lot too. Her bum, her belly, her feet, my hands! She also bites her nails at night and rubs her eyes a lot. She's also been drinking water obsessively since Wylie got here. I think it may be a combo of allergies (she has a sensitive tummy too) and soothing her stress. I've started adding fish oil & oatmeal to her food and noticed some improvement, but not total improvement. I'm leaning toward vet visit too, but if it is allergies, it can be so tricky to figure out the cause. Good luck!
  24. I use a product called "Fresh Digest" from Petco. It's a powder you mix in their food. It works greyt!
