  1. One of the many reasons I moved home. The 40 layers of combined clothing and boots for me and the grey was just too much! Sunny, 65 degree mornings are so much better. Teasing aside, boots, coats and quick sidewalk runs to take care of business were the norm for us in NYC when it got crazy cold and snowy. I really like the cheap boots from www.dogbooties.com. They worked for snow/ice/salt as well as for nesting damage and the one who liked to give herself 3 am pedicures with her teeth. What more can you ask of a $3. dog booties? I love that you can buy singles so you only have to replace as needed and can have a stash on hand.
  2. Just seeing this thread. Many good thoughts for your Charlie.
  3. I am so very sorry. I've lost two to osteo and it completely stinks. You will get a lot of good advice about amputation here. You will also get much needed moral and emotional support. You have already shown that you will be very mindful and not let George suffer.
  4. I am so very sorry. Fly free, Paisley.
  5. Let's all bake some ginger snaps for Taylor!
  6. Oh, no. I am so very sorry. Morty could not possibly have been loved any more than he is. Godspeed, Morty.
  7. So happy he was approved. So sad that he need to be approved.
  8. Welcome from another former NYC-er! I lived on the Upper West Side with three greyhounds over the past 20 years (Scarlett, Morgaine and Aquitaine). My new girl Tallulah now live in LA. Beautiful brindle girl!
  9. I've always loved the photo of Bailey in the midst of all of "his" greyhounds. I am so very sorry. Godspeed, Bailey.
  10. This. I went through this with Aquitaine when she was 9 and she miraculously let me know there was something wrong. The e-vet discovered the growth at 5 am, I elected to have her stay there the night before surgery. She had close to 4 more great years. She did develop kidney disease but that is not what took her from me. If your girl has a good quality of life, and the vet feels the prognosis is good, and if you can afford it (depending on costs where you live), it can definitely be worth doing the surgery. Very best wishes!
  11. Ditto this. A training class for bonding and a feeling of security was suggested for me and my SA girl. She could already do "sit" and "down" so we were able to take the training for therapy dogs. She turned out to be great at therapy work. I also found a walker who came in at her meltdown point (hers was 4-5 hours) and walked her and worked with her to be sure she was calm and quiet before she left. It took us a little time but was so very worth it. I can understand your being worried about your neighbors commenting. I know I was over-defensive when just one neighbor mentioned that my girl was crying when I left -- and he just wanted me to know in case I didn't already know. As many have said, alone training is done in short intervals and takes a while. My neighbors got very used to seeing me sit in the hall or on the stairs for 5 minutes while we worked on my being able to leave. This is all still very new to your pup. There is a good chance all will calm down in the near future. I didn't see any suggestion of a baby/dog gate. I know Pam mentioned she has one. I do to because I am staying with my stepfather and he wanted my new girl to be limited to my room and bathroom area. That lasted about a week before I came home to find he was keeping the gate open. The next week he suggested that I just leave it open when I leave. Since it is not my home, I am leaving it up so I can gate her when someone comes to the front door, etc. Seeing you, or other rooms, could make a big difference to your pup. It seems like it might be worth a try. I definitely applaud your willingness to explore any methodology that will make this work for you both. If scrips are what it takes to make your pup feel secure and calm, there is no reason not to try them. Best of luck!
  12. Holding every good thought and crossing all possible limbs and digits for Taylor and for you.
  13. It is so hard when you know you are doing everything possible, and sometimes the impossible. Big hugs to you all.
  14. Keeping you and Taylor in my thoughts and prayers. You know we are all behind you.
  15. Glad to hear that Morty is home with you. I hope you both get some good rest today.
