  1. I am so sorry you have had to make this decision but grateful that you have the strength to do so. Being able to let your boy go at home, where he is secure and comfortable is such a gift. Know that you were not alone at 6:00 pm, you were held tightly in a circle of people who have all been through this. Cancer sux.
  2. I am so happy that you met with the new vet. Sixteen is wonderful, clearly you spoil him rotten and do everything right. If nothing else, have the euthanasia discussion with the vet will let you know your options and then put those thoughts out of your mind until the time comes. Then you will know that you have a plan in place. It won't be one you like, but it will be one that you know is best for Charlie, and even for you. I have always found that the booties from dogbooties.com are the easiest to deal with for my girls. They couldn't be more simple -- a rectangle you pop the paw into then velcro shut. They are also affordable at $3 each so you can have extras on hand. They are not too tight, although they will stay on. I hope the new vet continues to be helpful.
  3. Many prayers for an uneventful surgery and recuperation. Taylor knows that he has the best dad for him. We all know there is nothing you would not do for your boy.
  4. Don't discount this time with him. All he knows is that he is getting even more time and loving from you. There appear to be a lot of coupons on GoodRX.com. Link.
  5. I saw the FB update yesterday morning. So very sad. Fly free, sweet girl.
  6. I am so very sorry. Betty Joan's sit allways made me smile. Fly fast and free, Betty Joan.
  7. I ended up with Dr. Steven Smith. He was going to charge me the "out of area" rate while I am at my stepfather's house since I am, indeed, out of his preferred area but he didn't!. He is very open, easy to deal with and good with greyhounds. Tallulah's first visit was in great, we stood in the backyard and he checked her all over, went over her records and gave me the scrip for the flea/tick/worm meds. Since it is him and his tech, he actually costs less than my NYC homecare vet and HE gave me every possible cost break he could! I now have every homecare vet, er service, ambulance service, etc. in my phone in case anything every happens. Uber won't take dogs unless they are service dogs and even then it is up to individual drivers. I want to be prepared!!!! I should add he was very complimentary about the hospitals fix of her leg break, he said that he could neither see, nor feel where she had broken the leg.
  8. Agree. It can seem even more tempting if you are eating (pretending to eat) it and the smell wafts over to Deacon. If he comes to you to get it, he might not feel like he is doing something he "has" to do but something naughty and fun.
  9. Over the last 4 years of her life this is roughly what I spent on Aquitaine. I lived in New York City where everything was even more expensive than NJ. The walk-in at the e-vet was $1,500 at the e-vet only or $185 plus tests that added up to $1,500 at Animal Medical Center. Dentals were $4,000 and her spleen removal surgery and stay were close to $15,000. Extremley thankful for insurance and a parent who covered the surgery and let me reimburse him. I have had one home care medical visit in Los Angeles just to get Tallulah started with a wellness visit. That is the vet's base visit charge which is comparable to NYC. It covered the vet and a tech so it was a very fair charge.
  10. Try to breathe and please do keep us posted. Good thoughts only for Bernie.
  11. Another vote to not get ahead of yourself. I went through this when my Aquitaine was 9. I was so sure that everything would be bad news that I had signed a DNR for her in case anything happend in surgery. Then my plain speaking vet called to say he felt really good about the surgery and that she could get 3-4 more years. I canceled that DNR so quickly! You could still get a benign response. I certainly hope you do. We didn't have to do chemo but those who know more about it seem to say only good things. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
  12. Another vote for the Denamarin. It is costly, but when my girl couldn't make it past 3-4 am without wanting to go out for no apparent reason, I started her on it and she went back to sleeping through the night. It helped a lot for our last year. Prices are moderately better on Amazon but it is still an expensive supplement.
  13. I am so very sorry. Sheana was always a favorite. Fly with the wind, Sheana.
  14. I can't believe it has already been 4 years. Neyla was just a bit bigger than life!
  15. What a lovely tribute. Godspeed, Danger.
  16. I am so very sorry. Run with the wind, Twister.
  17. I am so very sorry. Fly free, Laurie.
