Sometimes I think it's just something to do. It's chewable, it's at eye level... Molly has no SA at all, but one day she decided to taste the edge of the cedar chest. Then about a year later, for no particular reason, chewed the door molding beside her bed - at mouth level if she was laying down. They have kongs, bones, toys...but that particular day they chose wood!

Left hand, separate jaws, right hand put pill at back of mouth and use index finger to poke it down. Molly actually comes to me for her cranberry capsule every morning with her tail wagging (and a cookie after, of course!)

My guess would be a stye - Molly had this a couple of times, one time actually burst, the other time just gradually went away as the contents were reabsorbed - essentially a pimple along the rim of the eye. People can get them too. If it's not growing, I'd just watch it, but expect it will go away.... Good luck!

No blood, no fuss, easy as a vaccination...

I don't hide them either...Gary gets omega 3 every morning and willingly eats them...Molly gets cranberry every day but won't eat anything and has a very dexterous tongue to pick them out of food...I just put them down her throat - can't be too bad, she comes every morning to have it done!

My condo neighbor had a dog with SA, would bark and bark and bark, howl, scratch endlessly when left home alone - day or night...I had the property manager after them, no improvement, more complaints, other people complaining. They initially didn't want to get anything that would "hurt" the dog, refused to try a behaviourist but eventually they got something like this (I believe that was the name they used but the concept is definitely the same) and I wouldn't even know they had a dog now...it was a 100% improvement...

I did have a deerhound with Osteo, and around the joint (rear ankle) it was quite red and hot, but not as widespread as your photo. I think it's somewhat normal for increased blood flow around disease or injury, it's the body's way of responding. However, Gary also turns very red on his hind legs when he's hot...and it goes away when he's cooled down...it looks very similar to this. Let us know when you find out!

When Gary had his dental and extractions a couple of weeks ago, I was told to let him have a drink in the morning, then take up the water. He was going to have his surgery between 11 and 1 sometime. I think the concern is that they will vomit, I can't imagine that it takes more than a couple of hours to digest any water they drank, but I would check with your vet. Will be thinking of you and Merlin. Linda

Sending good luck to Tiny! Having been through this myself recently, while some can be removed with a local, by the time they're talking about "clean margins" they may well be talking about something deep enough to need a centimeter or so on around and maybe as deep. My melanoma that looked about the same diameter resulted in 8 inches of zig zag scar and 39 staples. I'm sure his will be much simpler and Tiny will be just fine, but he might appreciate the general anaesthesia! The main thing is to get it taken care of, it's a serious form of cancer. Linda

Absolutely not crazy - I have three in urns with their collars on my bookshelf. Thought about burying or scattering, but what if I moved (and I did)? They're all together, and I can't see parting with them. We don't chat often, but sometimes I do find myself picking them up and giving them a little scritch around the neck of the urn, about where an ear might be on a head...
