  1. For those of you using CBD oil for your dogs, Innovet is having a big Black Friday sale and it's still on today. 30% off! They now have an even stronger CBD oil, 750mg. Bowie gets 2 droppers full of their 125mg CBD oil per day. I ordered the stronger stuff so I don't go through it as fast and, if the day comes she needs a stronger dose, I'll have it on hand. I've found their prices to be the best ones out there. I just received my first 750mg bottle last week, opened the envelope and oh my, it smelled like the back hallway of my high school!
  2. Reposted because autocorrect likes to make me look illiterate!
  3. Bowie had her monthly bloodwork and physical. All looked good! I was concerned as she had throwback up some bile and bits of undigested food 3x 3 weeks ago. I increased her Pepcid to 20mg, 2x per day, added her probiotic back and added a healing spoonful of whole milk Greek yogurt. That solved the problem. I am very thankful, yesterday was the year anniversary of her limp first showing up. We thought she had overdone it playing with other greyhounds at the time. Little did I know.
  4. I have no advice or experience with this, but did the vet get samples of the bacteria seen in the discs? How would bacteria end up in the discs? Is it like meningitis for dogs?Antibiotics and pain meds can each cause nausea and not wanting to eat. Is she on steroids, pred?
  5. I can't say enough good things any Next Level Joint Fluid. Within 2 weeks Doodles was perky, running and and playing again. Was recommended to me by folks in the racing business, it was a godsend for her.
  6. If you buy a pill cutter and cut it into 1/4s, Costco has 100mg tablets, 30 count for $93.64. That would last a long time. Have you considered acupuncture and cold laser for Ruby's back end? That saved my Doodles after her FCE, she lived another 3 years. I never had to give her any prescription meds for her back end, I did give her a supplement to prevent muscle spasms. I also put her on Next Level Joint fluid for arthritis, it was amazing, within 2 weeks she was moving so much better, was brighter and playing again. It is recommended by racing trainers.
  7. Great!!! Here is a link to the vaccine I mentioned: https://ifx-vet.com/safe-and-effective-dog-cancer-treatment/
  8. Bowie went in for her monthly blood work today (because she's on Piroxicam). Everything seemed good, the oncologist was happy with her blood work. She did have 3 items that were slightly out of range, but he wasn't concerned. Actual Normal Range BUN 32 mg/dL (high) 7 - 27 ALKP <10 U/L (low) 23 - 212 TBIL 2.0 mg/dL (high) 0.0 - 0.9 Can anyone explain those to me? I had noticed some bumps under her skin, in the muscle, on her left flank (2" from her spine/just above her tuck). They are in the muscle and above a scar. They feel like keloids, as if she had been playing and another dog scratched her deep. I took her to my vet last week and the oncologist looked at them today. Both weren't terribly concerned, they aren't large enough to aspirate and they move. They want me to keep an eye on them. And, to my embarrassment and horror, she gained 2.6 lbs since the beginning of the month. She weighs what she did when she had her 4th leg. I am mortified. I think I've been over feeding her, I'm going to have to check the food scale I've been using. That, and we did not go on regular walks for most of the month of October because we had such a terrible heat wave. Heat wave is over, so walks will resume (she'll be happy about that). I'm cutting back on her food, too. It's not her treats, she only gets one dehydrated green tripe stick per day! Anyway, all in all a good report!
  9. I'm so glad to read this. Give him a gentle hug from me and a cookie from Bowie
  10. Is anyone watching The Truth About Cancer mini series? I skipped episodes 1&2, went right to #3 & #4, which seems to be a game changer for lots of folks with pets who have cancer. There is a study out of the veterinary university in Helsinki looking at biomarkers for pets fed raw vs kibble. I don't know how many dogs are in the study, but the data they are showing is an eye opener. One of the oncologists I've consulted with here in Los Angeles (took Bowie to see her in August) is interviewed. If you're interested in watching, the link is below. Make sure to have paper and pen available so you can take notes. On a side note, today is the opening day of the big veterinary oncology conference in Seattle. Praying for some positive news about the release of the osteo vaccine to come out of it. http://mapp.thetruthaboutcancer.net/a/144/click/4750536/743603620/_b8410a1e713e27ce4dad19a6882cbbaf604ec2bd/433cfeb954346be55f701ec1151297620812944a
  11. An oncologist told my friend about a vaccine that is very effective for mast cell tumors. I'll ask her for the info, I found this, not sure if it's the same thing. http://medivetbiologics.com/home/vets/bio-solutions/immuno/vet-k9acv/
  12. Bowie had her follow-up appointment today, blood work and xrays. Blood work good and xrays show clear lungs!!! They couldn't get over how large her heart is and had to bring up the old xrays to make sure nothing had changed. I'm soooooo relieved. They don't see a lot of greyhounds there, I reminded them that large hearts are 100% normal for the breed. Told them their hearts do naturally what Lance Armstrong did unnaturally. They got it when I put it like that.
  13. That's good news! You might want to try rubbing some Arnica gel on the swollen/bruised areas of her leg, just don't rub it into any areas where the skin is broken. It can really help make bruising and swelling go away faster.
  14. Beautiful, thank you for sharing this.
  15. Yes, by phone or email. Here is the link to his website http://www.coutovetconsultants.com/
  16. Yikes, that could be really tough and go south. I heard from a woman whose dog was in the first round of the Aratana study, that we're all waiting to be released any minute for our dogs, the treatment helped her dog live longer, but it made him really sick. The theory was that they we're testing it to see how low/high the dosage needed to go to still be effective and reduced side effects.
  17. Thanks for sharing. In reading it, seems like strange study design. The do the intervention in the tumor and then amputate. I don't understand the logic.
  18. My monthly premium is going up $9.55. I have no problem with that, it is what it is. I'm still happy and grateful for them, extremely happy. They've paid out well over $9,000+ for Bowie's osteo amputation, chemo treatments and follow up care since January alone with absolutely no problems. I feel fortunate to have chosen such a good company. Feel free to blame those of us with hefty claims like mine for the premium increase.
  19. I have way bigger issues to get bunched up over, I just wanted to make sure it was in the pipeline.
