  1. Notice how I don't have a photo of Jackson in antlers....he will NOT tolerate that nonsense. A true terrier through and through. Fenway is my Christmas elf. He loves getting dressed up and helping unwrap gifts. His love for this holiday makes it bearable. I adore that kiddo.

    Unka Lee

I know how much Unka Lee meant to you and the pack. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know he's up there spoiling all the hounds that had to go before he did.
  3. This is the promise I've made to my dogs. Oh, I really like this
  4. As I face my first Christmas without my best girl I am so thankful I have the boys to keep me smiling. Especially this one.
  5. Like you said, he'll ultimately be fine. Murphy's Law is surely at work. When ever we have scraps like that (rotisserie chicken, BBQ rib bones, etc) it goes directly into the big garbage can in the garage. We keep out locked trash in a cabinet with a regular turn door know. I still don't trust my dogs.
  6. Great news! Keep us posted on the insurance claim as well. Who is he insured with?
  7. I am so terribly sorry for your loss. You have her every chance. She's free from pain now. Godspeed, sweet girl.
  8. My worst nightmare. I've not had to deal with osteo yet but I know that it's evil, evil, evil. Wishing you and Henry all the best as you battle the cancer monster.
  9. Yep, bread. And extra food. I like to feed extra food to push things through a bit quicker. The bread will help coat any sharp edges.
  10. Who is your current company? Have you called them to ask about the "what ifs" you mentioned here? (What if there are no claims in 6 months, will the co pay go back to 20%?) Fenway just turned 7. I just signed him up for Healthy Paws. I elected the $250 deductible per year (not per condition) with 90% coverage. No wellness is included, but I'm not worried about wellness. I'm concerned about a $7,000 surgery being the reason I swing one way vs another. He has kidney damage so I already know there is potential for claims to go unpaid because of this preexisting condition. I chose Healthy Paws because of the deductible being per year rather than per condition.
  11. The Iams Lamb Healthy Naturals seems to be doing the trick. I've mixed the old and new 50/50 with lots of the old food left so we'll keep the mix as is for the next few weeks. Output is great so that makes me happy. And he's mostly finishing his meals now too.
  12. I would maybe vet wrap for a few weeks to first see if it is, in fact, her dew claws. If it is, go from there. But at least you'll know.
  13. Healthy Paws is who I'm looking at for Fenway. Just need to decide at which coverage. Leaning towards $250 deductible and 80% coverage for $40ish/month.
  14. Fen has been refusing his food lately. I grabbed a small bad oh Iams healthy something-or-other lamb today (not the green bag). I'm going to slowly add it in, very slowly, to see if it encourages better eating. Maybe if this woks for Fen we can switch Jackson to the same thing. Why can't it be easier? These sensitive tummy greys sure give their momma's extra worry!
  15. Can you explain, in detail, how to apply the Manuka honey? If its sticky like regular honey, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to dress a wound with it. Wouldn't it stick terribly to a piece of gauze? Help!
  16. I'm so sorry that your perfect girl is gone. I hope that she is doing what she loves most right now, whatever that might be. Goodnight, sweet girl.
  17. Fenway has minor kidney damage of an unspecified origin, diagnosed with an ultrasound. He started peeing in the house about 2.5 years ago when he should have been able to hold it (he was 4.5 years old at the time). We moved into a rental house with a dog door so it's no longer an issue, though there are some nights he doesn't go out. In your case since it's only been two nights that he has needed to go out, I'd recommend taking him out for a longer walk at 9pm so he has ample time to eliminate. Walking seems to get things moving. It could also be that he's getting cold and that's waking him up, and he also realizes he has to go once he's up. Maybe try PJs, a tshirt, or a blanket over him to see if that helps.
  18. Thanks guys. The Airedale is currently eating Blue Buffalo lamb and brown rice. Apparently it's more delicious than venison since Fenway's refusing his food, but will eat it with a little Blue Buffalo added in. So I guess were changing it up slightly due to pickiness. I know some people won't give in to pickiness, but if Fenway doesn't eat every meal his tummy gets gurgly and we'll often have big D as a result.
  19. If you are going to get insurance, get it today. Don't wait until a pre-existing condition can be added to your charts. It's not worth it now for me to get insurance on Fenway. I will get it for any new dog I get going forward and I will get it on day one.
  20. Just wondering if anyone had tried the dental vaccine I'm considering it for Fenway who, despite regular brushing, has horrible breath. I'll check out Krissy's reco for the water additive too.
  21. Thanks Giselle. I had "heard somewhere" you should switch up their protein source, but of course wasn't sure where it came from or if it is true. It's been so long since I tried switching things up that I can't recall how the output was last time. I know that was before Grace passed, so I can't remember if it was her or Fen that made me decide to stick with the "purple bag".
  22. I have been feeding Fenway Nutro Venision and Brown Rice for about 4 years now. I always had a hard time finding a food that would work for both Grace and Fen, this one was magic. There have been several times before that I have tried to switch and the results were "squishy". I'd ideally love to have him on the same food as Jackson, which is currently Blue Buffalo Lamb. Is it a good idea to switch up foods (proteins) every few years? Or should I just stick with what's working and be happy I have good poops?
