Good Thoughts For My Peanut Puppy Please

Recommended Posts

Yesterday morning, Ace went running out into the yard to bark at a squirrel with Sage. With the snow having melted, our yard is pretty muddy and she slid a little bit, but caught herself. She pulled something in her left front leg though, and she started limping about an hour later. So far Robaxin and Tramadol have kept her comfortable, and she's been resting well, but, it must be pretty bad because before I got her on meds she was not bearing any weight on the leg at all.

Poor Ace...she is the biggest baby when it comes to stuff like this too, and she won't let me massage it. When she gets up and it hurts, she looks at me like I've beaten her and caused her to feel this way, she tucks her tail and shakes. She is eating her meals like normal though, so that's good.

I just hope she is feeling better soon, seeing her so sad makes me sad. :(

I hope with rest and the pain meds, she'll be back to normal soon.

If you can touch her leg gently and locate the hot part, you can apply cold lightly, and it will help reduce the inflammation and feel good too. We use those gel coldpacks that live in our freezer, and we wrap them in a tea towel to take the edge off the cold when applying. Healing thoughts for your Peanut.

Oh yep Mary I put a cold pack on her earlier and she seemed to like that too :) I can see there is a spot that is swollen (sort of near her armpit) and she did just allow me to inspect it gently. It's swollen, but soft...so I'm 99% sure we're looking at a soft tissue injury or something equally benign on the freak-out scale. Her limp was JUST like Sutra's when he had osteo but I FORCED my brain to be rational. There is the swollen area on her leg, and I can tell that her neck is a little bit sore. A chiro adjustment or acupuncture will probably be in order once she's mended a little bit.

Fritz is all out of sorts because she's resting and being quiet. He even laid down next to her so he was touching her to try to get her to snark at him :lol He was just whining at her to try to get her attention and got upset when she didn't pick up her head to look over at him. She finally acknowledged him after 5 minutes of whining, so now he's laying down. He loves her so much - he's so very tied to her. Terrifies me for the future - he will be a MESS if we lose her first. :( But I told her she has to live forever and so far she's kept up her end of the bargain, so, I'm just not going to worry about that right now :)

Anyone have any idea when I should expect to see some improvement? She's a tiny fraction better today but she's still limping really bad.

Tissue injuries can take a little while. Don't be surprised if it takes a week. Have you tried a liniment? I use it on ours whenever they get sore or a tissue injury. We used it in the kennel too.

I am taking her to the vet tomorrow morning. It's been 5 days and she's just as bad as she was on day 1. If I'd seen some steady improvement, I might not worry. But at this point in the game, I am not willing to risk the cause being something that needs treatment and not have her checked out.

Still hoping that we're looking at a soft tissue injury and it will just take time. At this point I will happily accept that if films indicate that's what we're dealing with. But if it's something worse I'd never forgive myself if we didn't get it checked out.

Appt is at 9:40 central tomorrow. I'll update once we know what's up.

Hi Kristin. Don't let this worry you at all. I always thought Fenway would be a mess once Grace was gone. He was always so attached to his big sissy. I figured she'd have to go first, she was 3 and 1/2 years older than Fen. So imagine my surprise when I checked in on the webcam when Fen was home alone for the first time ever (Jackson went to day care) and saw this....

Fenny

X-rays were ALL CLEAR :yay So we just have quite a bit of inflammation, and she needs to go for acupuncture for her neck.

We just got home and she's resting comfortably :)
