Ferigin Passed This Morning.

I know I'm not around here much anymore but I know there are some here that followed us as we took Ferigin and Jitterbug to France and back.

Ferigin had been getting weak in his back end for months. At first it was not a big deal. He just didn't run as much. Then when you scratched where it felt oh-so-good and he tried to lift and kick a leg he would fall over. Finally two weeks ago it got to the point we decided he needed to be on a daily pain med. My, we should have done that sooner. After two days on the pain med he started initiating play and shadowing us again.

This morning when we woke up he did not get up to greet me. When I opened his kennel he could not walk in a straight line. In the three hours it took to get the vet on the phone then get into the office he could no longer walk and could barely stand in one place. There was really no question what needed to be done.

It was expected, yet still sudden.

Farewell Ferigin. I hope you find Jitterbug again.

I lost my Strider for the same reason - I know the pain that comes from having to say goodbye to a dog whose body betrays them. Godspeed Ferigin.
