CaliforniaGreys
Such good news, you'll be resting better now, too. Well, on second thought, maybe not...if Ekko is feeling really better...watch out world! Claudia would you elaborate on your reservations about amoxicillin? I've never had a vet use Clavamox before, but have had amoxicillin and ceflexin prescribed a bunch of times (for all breeds, not just greys). It will be good info for future use. That's just my opinion from experience Connie, nothing more. My PS vet always gave us Clavamox when it was mouth issues. I've had them get an upset stomach with Amox before when we would have to see another vet in the practice when mine was on vacation. I'll try it with Ekko after a Pepcid and give it to her with yogurt. After yesterday, I could not stand seeing her throw up again Quote Missing my little Misty who took a huge piece of my heart with her on 5/2/09, and Ekko, on 6/28/12 For the sick, the lost, and the homeless
DaisyDoodle
Claudia--I'm so sorry you and Ekko had to go through this. I used to take the girls to a vet practice (not in southern New England) where Dr. A was the GH specialist and Dr. B was also there. I realized quickly that I didn't like Dr. A, that he was, in fact, the single worst vet I had ever met. So we'd seen Dr. B a time or two, so I started asking only for Dr. B. Twice, maybe three times, I said, I would like an appointment with Dr. B. Staff said 'yes, okay, here's your appointment.' I'd get to the appointment only to find we'd been assigned to Dr. A. After the third time, I asked what was going on, and I was finally told that customers were not allowed to specify which vet they wanted to see--even though I was repeatedly being told that I did have appointments with Dr. B. (It was apparent that they did that because many people didn't want to see Dr. A.) After that I changed vets back to the one further away from home, and wrote Dr. B a letter telling him what was going on and had a follow-up conversation with him. Make sure that that isn't what is happening to you. I'm glad to hear that Ekko is feeling better. The reason this happened to us was because of a very sloppy mistake on the part of the office staff. And when the vet returns from vacation, I will have a chat with him for sure. The girls in the office blew off my concerns and just continued to tell me that the vet who would be doing the dental was excellent and knew her sighthounds or she would not be doing Ekko's dental. You blow me off when I have a concern for my pups, I'm done. Could this all have happened if Ekko's dental was done by the vet I booked the appt with? The vet who has already seen the dogs? I am not answering that question without a lot of thought, and I say no, it would not have happened and there's no way he would have kept a 12yr old sighthound under anesthesia for 2 hours, and then there's no way he would not have given her something for her stomach either. I've spoken to my PS vet, and we won't even discuss what he had to say Was this vet who couldn't have been more than 25, a bad vet? Maybe not, but not for a sighthound Edited June 27, 2010 by cbudshome Quote Missing my little Misty who took a huge piece of my heart with her on 5/2/09, and Ekko, on 6/28/12 For the sick, the lost, and the homeless
Guest mcsheltie
I haven't had time to be online much lately. Just read thru this. 2 hours OMG! I am glad to read at the end of 13 pages that Ekko is doing better. WHEW! FYI, if she doesn't tolerate Amoxi don't use Clavamox. Clavamox is Amoxicillin/Clavulanate Potassium. Clindamycin (Antirobe) is an excellent antibiotic for mouth issues and rarely causes any stomach upset. Amoxi & Clavamox often cause diarrhea. That's what I was going to say...I thought Amoxicillin and Clavamox were very closely related. Our vet usually gives Clindamycin for dental things here. I'm glad that Ekko is feeling better...and don't feel foolish about asking for support, any time they get put under for a surgery, it's scary. As closely as they are related, none of my dogs ever got an upset stomach or the runs with Clavamox but have with Amox. Guest MyCody
I have been following this and I am appalled that it happened and thankful that Ekko is starting to feel better. To be concerned as we all are when a procedure is done and then have a callous vet is just not acceptable. I don't know if I should start another thread and I certainly hope what I am about to post is not taken wrong, but I have had very bad experiences with a couple of vets and I'm wondering why we don't name them when this happens to save others from going through the same thing. Trudy, is there a legal issue with explaining our experience and the bad and in some cases fatal outcomes when a vet does not do the right thing? Again, I'm not trying to start anything, just scared to death about anesthesia and was watching for Ekko's dental report never dreaming that this would happen. My vet knows how I feel and went to great lengths to assure me that there is safe anesthesia now for greyhounds. I think the arrogance and incompetance of this vet is just awful. My last bad experience was when we lost Emmy Lou and I made a report to the administrators and the head of the hospital. Terry

Terry We won't let you bash a vet, but if you want to suggest not using a vet because you don't like them for whatever reason, that's fine... just no bashing. Guest MyCody
Thanks Trudy, I'm just thinking I'd rather not use the vet that did Ekko's dental although I know I wouldn't because I know of a vet in our area that is considered the best by a lot of vets in our area, Dr. Charles Schor of Acoaxet Veterinary Clinic of Westport MA. I just think if we have a bad experience with medical treatment and can prevent someone else from going through it, we should be able to.
