MP_the4pack
Now that I've joined the ranks of the horrid OS, I'm curious to which leg seems to get osteo more. Diamonds is her right front.

mom2four
Jamey had his right front leg amputated in June. ETA, it was in the middle of his humerus, with no "sunburst" pattern, we think we caught it in the early stages. Results of needle aspirates were inconclusive until his leg broke on the X-ray table. His leg was amputated and it was DX as OS AFTER the amputation. grey14me
Wow, I didn't know this. I'd always heard 'away from the elbow and towards the knee'. In other words, if it's a front leg it's either the 'shoulder' or 'wrist' and on a back leg it's a 'knee'. greytluck
Wow, there seems to be an overwhelming majority of osteo on the front right leg It's something I never realized before. Thankfully I've never experienced osteo first hand yet, but it's always on the back of my mind anytime I even see a slight limp. Has Dr. Couto or anyone else come up with any theories as to why it occurs with such frequency on this particular leg. With such a propensity for one area there has to be something to it. All that comes to mind for me is possible stresses while racing. Do greyhounds lead with that leg (that foot hits the ground first)? Maybe it has something about the pressure on that particular leg as they round the corner....
HopeForHounds
If I remember Dr. Couto correctly it almost always the right front. I could be wrong. Maybe shoot an email to him. I've seen osteo in all 4 limbs as well as ribs and a few other places. So it may be more frequent in the front right but not exclusive. I've sent Dr Couto an email, I'll let you know. Amazing how is it almost always the right front, and Max's was the proximal humerus.
