Healing Light For Bumper

Recommended Posts

Well, I have avoided posting in this forum I think because I'm trying to avoid the reality of Bumper's current condition. In his 6 months with us, this is his second bout of "something" causing inflammation around his spinal cord, which causes a neurolical disruption between his brain and hind end. As a result and as I think the swelling progressed over the last 2 weeks (since he has been in and out of regular vet), he was not able to walk or stand on Friday. An emergency MRI concluded everything was "normal". Huh?

So, the likely causes are 1) autoimmune or 2) less likely, but some type of infection like meningitis. While Bump was under for the MRI, the neurologist did a spinal tap and we expect the results tomorrow. I guess they can deduce whether it is autoimmune or not based on the type of white blood cells in the spinal fluid. If there are a variety, I am told, it is likely autoimmune.

I felt terrible for him on Friday morning as I wheeled him into the neurologist's on a gurney and he was shaking so much his teeth were chattering. I hated seeing him like that. He is at least a bit more comfortable and less nervous now but is still in a fair degree of pain. I am told he is able to walk with assistance and go to the bathroom on his own, though he needs some motivation to do so.

If there is any white light left out there, given so many struggling houndies, our Bumper could sure use some. Here is a shot of him on a better day (night) while sleeping in DDs lower bunk while camping:

Thanks for any well wishes you can send his way.
