And the answer is: hemangiopericytoma.

The vet told me that this was actually what she was *hoping* it would be...that these things do tend to regrow, but aren't likely to cause a lot of problems, and it does not spread throughout the body. She said they can't tell if they "got it all", because this tends to have long tendrils, some of which are microscopic.

What she said was, "They tend to recur, but hopefully not in Rascal's lifetime". :) Yeah, no kidding...in the grand scheme of things, given all the terrible news I've had lately, this was not too bad.

Funny how losing a child makes cancer in your dog seem "not too bad". :(

:grouphug and worries about worse cancers make "better" cancers seem good--but in this case, it does sound like this was pretty good news, overall. I think this might be the same kind of tumor that our 11-yr-old Zippy had removed from a leg a year ago. The vet told us the same thing. So far, it has not recurred, and she has done just fine after surgery. Here's to our pups' continued health! Edited by SusanP

My boy Faolin had one removed from his hip in August of 2007. We didn't get clean margins but it has shown no sign of recurrance. I hope the same is true for Rascal. :goodluck

Bless your heart. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad Rascal's path report was as good as it was and you can breathe a sigh of relief.

Glad to hear this news. Hoping it doesn't come back and you and Rascal have a lot more time together.

Yup, of all the cancers to have, this is a "good" one. Marcus had one removed from his chest a few months before we adopted him, and there was no sign of it coming back a year and a half later when he passed away. *hugs*

That is exactly what I was hoping it would be. The same kind of of tumor Foxy had. I hope you can relax a bit. There is a treatment that Dr Couto can offer that is not very invasive. You might want to have your vet contact him to discuss it.
