scullysmum Posted December 16, 2008 Share Posted December 16, 2008 I just heard that my friend Gwen's lovely Lurcher boy Bart was pts yesterday afternoon. He had not eaten anything for a week and his lungs were very congested so he was taken in for x-rays and it was found that he had a tumour on his liver that was pressing against his lungs and that there was also a shadow on his lungs Gwen and her partner Alan decided that it was time to let him go. Gwen took on Bart a couple of years ago as his owner had become ill, he was actually half-brother to one of her other dogs so she already "knew" him. He had not had much of a life with his former owner, rarely got walked (except a few hundred yards down the road to the local pub) so it was something of a culture shock to Bart when he moved in with Gwen and Alan....their dogs have the kind of active life that most dogs only dream of. Bart also had a bit of a problem with socialisation with other dogs and within the first week he had got himself into a fight with a Bull Terrier and had to be stitched up...I think Gwen wondered what she had let herself in for With a little time he settled into his new lifestyle and his character started to show, he was an incredibly funny dog, full of energy, loving to play with toys but always horrified when one of his "Girls" caught a rabbit ....who ever heard of a Lurcher who didn't like to catch bunnies? I know that Gwen and Alan will be heartbroken and will miss his so much, as will his "girls"....and I know that plenty of other people, including me will miss dear Barty will all our hearts. Bart looks like he was quite a character - how fortunate for him that he found such a loving home with wonderful people and his girls.
