woolfy
Tribute to Peek-A- Boo, Our Petit, Little Greyhound

8/22/98 – 6/20/08
[/font] After looking and visiting with several greyhounds, in our search for a grey friend for D.O.G., we all met Peek-A-Boo, Richard, D.O.G., and I. Little did we know at that first meeting that she would become our second fur kid. Peek-A-Boo was a petit, 48 pound, black brindle greyhound. At our initial meeting she jumped onto Richard's lap. Richard was concerned as Peek-A-Boo was a high energy dog, but I felt like she would be a good fit, and as time as proven she was the perfect fit in our home and in our hearts. Peek-A-Boo loved life and when she was excited it showed by her barking, her rising of her ears, her wagging tail, and her perky gait. When she would see a squirrel-Look Out!! Ears went straight up. She would go towards the squirrel, then start barking, at that point the squirrel ran away, On the many walks, hikes, and trips that we have been on she has chased Prairie Dogs in South Dakota, stood in awe of Bison and Elk, chased deer in Route 66 Park, caught a squirrel at Daniel Boone's home, run after seagulls at Dewey Beach, and has gone after bunnies, fox, chipmunks, and assorted birds, all done while on a lead held by her middle aged companions, us. We had so much fun on these excursions and learned to view God's creatures with greyhound eyes. When not out on our daily walks or special activities, Peek-A-boo was a lover of comfort. She was the pillow arranger par excellence. She had lots of special spots in our home depending on her emotional and physical needs whether it was lying in the sun on a cold winter's day, in her corner to be with us, but not with the other greys, or on a pile of pillows. Peek-a-boo knew what she wanted and sought it out. She was the ringleader getting us up in the morning, or focusing us on the "mission" of the trail. Another Peek-A-Boo hobby was shopping. She spent many hours strolling on the streets of St.. Charles looking for that dog-loving shopkeeper, who would invite her in for a sniff and a browse. Peek-A-Boo was a greyt greyhound ambassador. Her loving demeanor attracted people, her small size made little kids feel comfortable, and her name made them smile. People fell in love with Peek-A-Boo. Finally, Peek-A-Boo loved her family both human and canine. If one of us was gone for five minutes she kept a watchful eye as to where we went. She knew where we were and was sensitive to the environment, ready to protect as needed. Peek-A-Boo evolved. As the years turned her dark colored face to white she mellowed and she allowed herself to accept our love, just as she unconditionally loved us. She loved to cuddle and be cuddled. She became a big part of our hearts and minds. She trusted us without question. When the time came to let her go, it was tearful, but for her best. We were blessed to have Peek-A-Boo in our lives, just as we were a blessing to her. We will never forget her. Edited July 17, 2008 by woolfy Quote Dogs are our link to paradise.
